A few years ago there was a rider who went to Labrador in the winter. He encountered typical winter temps of -40C. Can't remember the bike make but it had to be well prepared and reliable. Either it was a personal test of metal or just plain insanity making it's way to the front of the line.
Back in the 70's I rode all winter in Edmonton Alberta but it was a milder winter, not more than -30C. Lots of kick starting to get it going with an extended warm-up time before it was rideable. Thick cold oil is not a tranny's friend.
Why did I do it? Couldn't afford to fix the radiator in the van. But the ex would still call all her relatives long distance to bitch about how broke we were. Go figure.

She had quite an extended family and sent our house keys to all her relations in North America just in case they were in the neighborhood. Have you ever come home to your "Empty" house and found total strangers in the living room and no wife around.
So much for a man's castle, it was more like a free hotel with no desk clerk. Smartest thing she ever did was toss me out. I'm so happy about that now.
