Not needed.....But if you do use it for added assurance.......Just a thin coat. :)

I like the silicone type automotive gasket maker......Remember.......a very thin coat on both sides of gasket.......Just enough to hold gasket in place. :)

Gasket is baked on and will not come off, any ideas out there?

You need something to soften the gasket. Rubbing alcohol might work. If not I''m sure some one will have a better idea. With the gasket softened you can scrape it off but be very careful not to damage the surface of the metal. A plastic scraper will do nicely and is not as hard as the metal so it shouldn't do any real damage. I learned the hard way some years back.

A small sanding disk on a dremell works well & won't gouge. :)

What he said.
I've actually pulled a cover for a quick fix. Had the old gasket rip in
half. Half stuck to case. Half stuck to cover.
Made my repair. Applied gasket sealer to one side.
Usually the cover.
Replace the cover but only gently tighten fasteners. Then in 15 or 20 I'll tighten
fasteners properly. Let sit for a few hours. Then refill oil.
Done this a few times.
Never leaked so far.
King of cheap....
Your results may vary.
