Ok I'm feeling kind of sheepish but I need some help from an expert. I recently obtained a 2000 Gz250 for my daughter. I pulled what I thought was the oil sump drain plug, but when I poured the used oil into a container I found a spring and a plunger. I suspect that this is the oil filter bypass assembly. the plug is located just in front of the actual oil sump plug on the bottom of the engine case. my question is....... what is the proper position to install the plunger, pin side up, or pin inserted into the spring and plunger side up? I have searched through a factory service manual and it doesn't cover the bypass other that it exists

It is the plunger to keep you from shifting more than one gear at a time. You are not the first to mistake it for the oil drain.Pin goes up. :)
