Higher mileage gz250?

Hello. I am looking into buying my first bike this weekend. I have come across a few honda rebels and a few gz250s.

One bike is a 2006 gz250 with 12k on it. Seems to be well taken care of. New tires and had an oil change last week.

My question regards the life of the engines. Is 12k considered to be towards the end of the bikes life? I know there are many variables, but should I pass due to the higher miles than some of the rebels I'm seeing?

Also what would be a fair price for said bike?

12k isn't bad for a GZ, but depends on the asking price.

Its a fun little tool, I was between choosing a GZ and a Yamaha V-star 250cc because I'm 6' 3'' and those were the largest knee angles for more comfort.

I went with the gz because of the 3.7 gallon gas tank VS a 2.2 gallon tank the v star has and most other 250s have around 2 point something gas tanks.

Unless you are not tall then a rebel probably wont be comfortable, but you have to sit on one at least and ride it to really know for sure.

The GZ is the largest of the 3 bikes and would be more comfy overall. Having ridden a Yamaha for a week in a training course I would opt for the GZ. Lynda rode a Rebel during the training course and it had the common tranny flaw in most Rebels. They don't like to be shifted down into 1st when coming to a stop. A simple design flaw but an annoying one and also a dangerous one in my opinion.
The GZ has the virtue of 1 cylinder and fewer moving parts. A slick tranny and a truly forgiving personality. There are more Rebels out there overall but the GZ is the best in my opinion.

Same reasons a lot of us love our GZ's being simple bikes.

2.9 gallons before reserve and 0.8 on reserve. 3.7 gallons total most I took it down was 3.4 gallons

Its hard to want any other bike unless you take a GZ gas tank or big gas tank on a more fuel efficient bike.

On 250's you can brag that although you got a small engine you can go as far or farther on your tank of gas that theirs.
