Well, the weather report said it was actually going to be up to 60 in Northern Illinois today, so I headed off this morning for my first out-of-town spring ride. It was 40 degrees when I left, but I was plenty warm with my jacket, gloves with mitten covers, full face helmet and chaps. Going west, there was a strong head wind, but I was able to hold a comfortable 60 to 65 cruising speed. I just put my OEM 15 tooth sprocket back on yesterday. I'm pretty sure the 16 tooth would have made it more difficult to battle the wind. By the time I as heading back toward the western Chicago burbs again, the wind had shifted so it was coming more from the south bringing in some warmth.
It was 69 by the time I got back home! Maybe we are finally into some warmer weather. It's been a long winter here. I just got a butt pad from Alaska Leather and used it for the first time today. It made the ride much easier--no soreness as I type this.

Always nice to get back in the saddle, isn't it? I've been riding all through the winter here in southeast VA, only had to ride in the snow a couple times......although what constitutes snow around here is a joke now....haven't had a decent snow in years. All I've seen for the past 2 weeks has been rain and fog and mist every day, which doesn't really make for a fun ride  I'd rather ride in a downpour than a misty haze, at least in the downpour you know where the road is wet. Have fun in saddle!

Yes, it's good. I've been grabbing days and 1/2 days throughout the winter to commute and go on errands around town, but his has been one of the snowiest winters ever in Chicago so there haven't been may opportunities. I guess that's what I get for living where I do. Warmer and sunnier days are coming.
