View Full Version : will synthetic oil void warranty?

time for an oil change. will switching to synthetic oil void my warranty? warranty runs out at the end of june. any opinions on which synthetic is best?

Hi Molly. In answer to your question..........No. Synthetic oil will not void the warranty. Many manufacturers use synthetics right out of the factory. It is good stuff. The only thing to watch for is to get oil that is not energy conserving. You will find that designation in the circular symbol on the back of the bottle. The lower half of the symbol will say energy conserving or be blank. Just use whatever weight oil the manual suggests. We use amsoil in both bikes and are more than satisfied. It comes in 10-40 and 20-50 weight and are motorcycle specific oils. The 20-50 also has the shear strength of a 90 weight gear oil so I would think that would keep the transmission gears very happy. Shell Rotella Synthetic 15-40 is also very popular and cheaper than the Amsoil. It is an oil that works well in all engines with properties that benefit a bike.

YAY! I can't wait to try it. Which weight of oil would be best in a 2006 GZ250? I ride her pretty hard, as I have to get on a 4 lane highway just to leave my house! I guess i should check my manual, and buy NON energy conserving synthetic oil accordingly, right? I really want to burn synthetic, after reading all the raves about it. Thank you so much for the advice!

It will not void your warranty.

Listen to what everyone has already said and enjoy. It doesn't get any better.

Auto Zone carries Mobil 1 cycle specific 10W40.
Easiest to find. Least worrys about being "the right kind".
If you don't see it right away, ask.

I used castrol syntec in mine. I changed the oil the day after i brought it home, 2 years ago, and have over 4000 miles on it. You can also get a K&N oil filter for it.
