The person that I got the bike from let the bolt at the rear of the tank get loose. When I got the bike I tightened it, but the damage was already done in the form of a crack that seeped gas. It has gone from bad to worse and I need a new tank. I check ebay, but there are not a lot of GZ250 tanks there. Will another Suzuki tank work in the 250s place?

You can always do a chopper style fix by rigging the tank from another bike on there, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Have you tried Ronayers.com? I always use them for my OEM parts.

If the tank was about the same size and would only require me to tack on the rear tabs I can do that.

When I bought the bike one of the bolts on the tank was loose. I bought it and tightened the bolt, but the tank must have developed a small hairline crack. Tried to patch it with some tank patch junk, and then ended up taking the bolt tabs off to get at the leak. Then while welding the hole I dropped the tank off the bench and put a large dent in it. Now even if I fix the tank I need a new one. This is one of those projects that just goes down hill and no mater what you do it just keeps going.

Sorry to hear about that.

A replacement fuel tank on Ronayers is about $450, which is pertty steep.

Let me look around and I'll see if I can't help you find a blank universal tank. Would you be able to drill the holes required for tapping in your stock petcock?

I'll get back to you.

this would be my first choice. The cream of the crop. This is a GZ250 gas tank.

Wow that is a lot of help. I went to bed thinking that someone would reply, but wow. I sent the guy with the red gz250 tank an e-mail a day or two back, but have yet to hear from him. If I could pick it up cheap, I would be willing to live with it until I could find a black one.

Well, if you get it for under $100 you would be getting a great deal.

If you want to stay cheap and still have a black tank, I'd suggest having the thing sand blasted and just painted flat black. It would serve as a very sutiable stand-in while you wait for a OEM replacement.

Just my $0.02

I did not want to start another thread because this is all part of the same saga. I got a tank off ebay the other day. It is dented, but I got it for less than 100 bucks and i figure that I can sell it later or paint it.

I am thinking about trying to make a tank out of copper. Does anyone know how thick the tank on the bike is? If I make one out of copper I will make it a bit thicker. If this works I will see about changing out the front and rear fender, and those side plates. Just something to keep me busy.

making a tank and modifying a custom style tank are two completely different beasts.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider making a tank, partly because I wouldn't even know where to start.
If you are having a tank made for you, then that's different. But I assume that would cost more than just buying a replacement tank.

A dented tank can be bondo-ed and made to look just like new, if you know what you're doing.

Good luck man,
I'll keep an ear out for random tanks.

Stock tank, still too expensive for me at 100 bid and 30 shipping, heck I only spent like 400 total for my bike. There was a tank on ebay that went for about 40 dollars, im waiting for another deal like that one.

I may put a bid on the black one if it does not go too high. If so I will have a red tank for sale soon. I think that if you check some of the links above you may see it.

This has been the only conversation for, like, a week and a half.

Where is everyone?

Sorry that I am disturbing the peace. I just found out that my wife has been rejected for a visa that we have been trying to get for 4 years. I will not be trying to make that copper tank, and I hope that I can pick that black tank up cheap. I need to get the bike back to black so that I can sell it when I move out of the country in September.

No no. I'm not complaining. I'm just saying that the board has really dried up this week.

Sorry to hear about the situation with your wife.
What's going on?
We are in the process of removing my wife's conditional status on her greencard. We have been through the visa process a couple of times. Maybe I can help.

Where will you be moving to?

My wife is Georgian, and I will be moving back over there if we cannot figure this thing out. I have been working on this for 4 years and am very tired of not knowing where my life will lead. At this point moving back to Georgia (the country not the state) would be fine, because than at least I know what I need to do.

The long and short of it is that my wife had a bad lawyer before we met (she had a pending asylum case in the U.S.). He told her to say that her mom and dad died in the civil war in the 90s, and that if she did not do so he would not be her lawyer any longer. My wife had paid him about 8k at this point so she went with it. That is the only thing that she has ever done in her life and it has come back to haunt us.

If you want to answer off board so that we do not clutter up things shoot me a PM.

Check with your local radiator shop about repairing it. You will have to repaint it but it might be cheaper.
