Hello,
I was doing an oil change this morning and when I removed the plug out came a dowel pin and spring. I think it is the crankshaft balancer pin. I am in the process of doing a complete overhaul and cosmetic redo. The engine ran fine before I started the bike. What do you think I should do now. I would not really like to take the whole engine apart to find that this has been running like this for some time. Opinions? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you took out the right plug? There are two that look very much the same. The front is the drain plug. The rear one has a spring & pin that will fall out if you remove the plug. That spring & plug keep the shifter from going up or down more than one gear at a time.

Thanks for this. I thought I took out the correct plug. Oil came out. Perhaps I took out the wrong one. I will check again. Thanks for this.

Wow, you are an amazing mechanic. I feel so stupid. I saw a 17mm drain plug, at least what I thought was one, and drained the oil. The pin and spring are what you suggested. I will replace the parts and put things back properly. This is a great place to solve problems and issues. I am so proud to be a little part of it. I will be happy to help anyone in any way I can. Regards.

No need to feel stupid. It has happened to other members. That how come I could solve it so quick. Why it was designed with both plugs the same size in the same area is beyond me. Oh....Thanks for the compliment.
