Hi everyone, my name is Oscar and I just purchased my new to me 2007 gz250 on Monday! I am happy I found a whole community of awesome peeps with passion for the gz250! A coworker of mine told me he was selling his motorcycle, I had no idea what it was since I have little to no experience with motorcycles. He told me it doesnt run and had no idea how to fix it or where to start. I told him I was interested in taking a look at it, maybe I could take it off his hands. I'm a fix it yourself kinda guy so i was confident I could get it back up and running again. Once I got a good look at it I made an offer with worst case scenario in my head and it stuck! A home Depot truck later it was in my back patio waiting to be explored  I started checking the battery and electrical components, fuses, etc. and I wasn't able to get an encouraging sound out of it. So I slept on it (not the actual bike, but the ideas of diagnostics) and the next morning I gave it a good wash and began taking piece by piece off. I got to the spark plug and when I pulled it out i noticed the tip was smashed in and also the piston itself had some scars from hitting the plug. That's as far as I've gotten, i know the road ahead of me contains replacing and or repairing the main engine components (cylinder, head, piston, rod, crankshaft, etc.) So this is my adventure and I am looking forward with much enthusiasm and excitement! I will post pics in the repair topic of this great forum! Sorry for the loooooonnnnnnngggggg intro

Thanks for the warm welcoming! I will definitely change the plug first and then go from there, thanks much.

Welcome to the family.I would try a new plug to see what happens.I would also check that the old one is the proper one.

This is what it looked like after I straightened it out a little bit (Why I even messed with old plug I don't know :??: )

If i had to make a guess I would say a piece broke off one of the valves & was laying on top of the piston & smacked the plug. A few other members had this happen.

You were right!!! :-D now I just need a piston and a head. Should I get ALL the valves?? They all got nicked when that piece went flying around.

The structure and integrity of the valves have been compromised. Likely they will eventually fail and you get to start over again. Do it right and don't gamble with damaged parts.

I found this piston on eBay from a 1999 model. Will this be compatible with my 2004?

FYI, the GZ was never changed much or at all so just about every part is interchangeable between years.

Use the fiche files at Ronayers.com to do a quick check on parts numbers.

That's what I did to verify piston fitment, actually. There were a few minor changes over the years in the method of production and IIRC the TDCC was one of them at one point. But it seems like it wasn't enough of an alteration to affect part fitment or anything major.
