Our local town, La Orotava, is famous for the sand and flower carpets. Every Corpus Christi the central plaza is decorated with pictures made from the different coloured sands of Mt.Teide. The streets are closed off, and the cobbles are covered with pictures made from flower petals. On the evening of the Thursday, a procession sets off from the church, over the flower carpets, and into the plaza. All the painstaking work is destroyed, but it's a tradition going back to 1847. If you're interested, I've put a link, so you can see this year's work.
