I don't know what happened. His wife sent me an email.
Both his legs and one shoulder are broken but he says he is OK otherwise.
I'll post updates as I receive them.
Oh man. I hate getting this kind of news.
PLEASE keep us updated Bob!
Thoughts go out tonight to Mike and his wife. Have a speedy recovery my friend.

Mike is in Chattanooga TN Erlanger Hospital. He will be in the hospital there another week and in good spirits all things considered
The accident occurred on US41 south in Chatsworth GA when a car started to pullout in front of him from parking lot. He got ready to brake and the car stopped Mike relaxed a bit relaxed a little removed hand and toe from the brake. The guy changed his mind and pulled out in front of him. He laid the bike down hit the car and was thrown into the air. He told me he hit his head three times although how he had enough wits about him to count them is beyond me. His right femur is broken in three places. His left ankle is broken and a torn rotator cuff. He has had surgery on his ankle and leg and now can't go through metal detectors at the airport any more.
He was wearing a helmet, gloves, boots and jacket. He said they all worked. The only road rash he has is a small spot one hand where the glove let go. They were batting gloves not motorcycle gloves.
The bike is probably totaled. As we all know used GZ250s are not worth much it doesn't take much damage to total one.
More updates as I get them.

What did the accident report look like? Will the driver be paying for the damages?

The driver will have to pay. He was charged and admitted guilt so it seems pretty much cut and dried. I don't know what he was charged with.

Talked to Mike again today. He sounds much better. More surgery tomorrow on the shoulder this time. The place he works is sending an ambulance to bring him home so he doesn't have to worry about how he is going to get transfered to his home town hospital. He should be there next week.

I talked to Mike again last night. He seems much improved from the first time I called. His shoulder surgery when well. The physical therapist is coming by to torture him every day. To hear him tell it this is the worst part. He expects to get transfered to the hospital in his home town soon.

Mike is going home today. He is real happy about that. He seems to be feeling quite well. He hasn't had any pain medication for several days.

Wonderful news to hear. Thanks so much for keeping us up-dated. Hoping to have Mike back on the forum soon too and read his own words and thoughts. And of course his plans for the new bike...........I am assuming the other one is really broken.

Hey Gang!
First of all, thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers. Believe me, they mean a lot! I'm home now, still in a wheelchair and walker, but probably feeling and doing better than I have any right to. Considering it all, I feel pretty darned good!
Of course, I'll stand up and shout about wearing gear. I'm sure glad I was wearing it all, and hope you all do the same. This would have a been a lot worse without a full face helmet, jacket, and gloves.
I've always said that the nicest people to meet on the road are bikers. And I'll say they're darned nice to meet right here, too. Thanks all! :rawk:
I'll try to get on here every day now, or at least as often as I can.
Ya'll take it easy, hear?

Yea! He's back.
Typing pretty good with one hand.

One hand with training fingers
Seriously, this rotator cuff is a b....! But once I get the arm up on the table and brace the elbow so it doesn't fall off, it seems to work alright. Heh heh - still learning how to do stuff!

I am glad you are home. I never felt comfortable calling you at the hospital. I know when I was in the hospital, I didnt want visitors or phone calls.
Did you get the little bike home? Or is it totaled somewhere in Georgia? Glad you are feeling better and have a work place who understands and hopefully doesnt give you a hard time for being off work.
Glad you are back on the forum.

Oops, I forgot all about the pictures of the Harley passenger floorboards on the little GZ.
I will get them this evening. The horse farrier is coming this evening so it will give me something to do. I will post it as soon as I get them taken. Sorry man, with you getting hurt and the new bike, I forgot the pictures.

Here you go Mike.
To mount them, I had to grind down a miniscule amount of the Clevis bracket (<1/16 inch). To mount them, I had to use spacers (I used nuts the appropriate size) for the brackets. I didnt trust using just the Clevis pin to hold on the floorboards and my feet; so after I installed the pin, I used small o clamps (one on each side) to help give the bracket support.
They were the mini floorboard kit for the Harley Davidson Dyna Glide

Hi guys! Recovery is going GREAT! Just saw the doctor today, more xrays, and he said - buy a decent cane and go take a walk. The best news I could have heard and a full 6 weeks before it was predicted! He said everything was healing up really nice, there was no need to baby my leg anymore, and told me to start putting weight on it and ween myself off the walker. I'm happy!!!! :2tup:
The ankle is still a bit sore, not a lot, and the shoulder still only works part way. I can reach out for a doorknob, can't raise my hand over my head yet. Will have to not get held up for a bit, I guess. Anyway, all minor stuff, really.
I attribute this fast recovery on the fact that I have a lot of friends wishing me well. It sure means a lot to both my wife and me. THANK YOU!! :rawk:

That is great news Mike. Must have a lot to do with being in good shape before the mishap and the care taken after the event. Keep up the good work.
