Gday all. Just tried to do the first oil change after getting (I thought!) all the stuff together and ran into two problems. One, one of the bolts is tight as a.... well, tight. It has just started to burr it so i stopped while only slightly behind. Second one of the bolt heads is directly under the left hand exhaust so how the heck do i get to it!??! Tried a small spanner and a socket wrench and niether seemed to work
Also if you only loosen two of the outer bolts along with the central one will the cap come loose enough to let the oil out anyway? This way i dont have to worry about the slightly burred third bolt and can just leave it.
Anyway, thanks for any advice you can give me.

uh - what???
Unless the bike has changed a lot between mine and yours,
there is only ONE drain bolt!
What bolts are you talking about? Send a pic,
or somehow let us know what you mean.

If I'm reading your post correctly, you don't remove any of the smaller three bolts.Just the center drain plug.

I just tried to change the oil and filter on my Shadow and found I didn't have the right wrench for the drain plug. I tried a crescent wrench but couldn't get a good purchase on the bolt, then a 11/16 socket which fit well enough, but I couldn't attach a ratchet because a coolant hose is in the way.
The next day I took the bike, oil, and filter to the shop so they could do it, but they are booked up for 30 days. They refered me to a mechanic who used to work there and has just started his own shop. He did the oil and filter change and also checked the bike over, lubed the clutch and brake lever pivots and sidestand pivot. Also replaced a nut missing from the bottom of the clutch lever pivot bolt. He wrote down the tools I needed to get to do my own oil and filter change (17mm box end wrench, filter wrench). Total charge: $10!
It is a little one bay shop in a strip mall, his wife is the receptionist/scheduler. I am one of his first customers. I hope they make it.

Heck you can't work an anything without metric wrenches. Half the fasteners on my Dodge Ram are metric. I was once adjusting a belt on an "American" car and found the bracket bolts on the alternator to be SAE while the tensioner bolt was metric.
