OK, here goes. Sunday I pumped the tank full to bottom of the filler neck. We made that 129 mile trip. I have made two trips to town for a total of 135.3 miles. It took 1.4 gallons to fill the tank back to the filler neck. That is 96.642 mpg. Impossible? NO, I pumped the gas myself, and the trip mileage matched the Harley mileage within 2 tenths. Has anyone else gotten that kind of fuel mileage? Even if the pump measure was off by 2 tenths of a gallon it would still be 85 mpg or so, but the pumps are inspected, so I have no reason to believe it didn't get that performance.

On the ride to Cheaha State Park in Alabama, I clocked one tank @ 92 mpg and one at 79. So those numbers aren't unheard of.
I think BadBob's wife averaged much higher than average on her GZ, IIRC, with regular hits in the 80s and low 90s.

The only thing I can think of that could cause any difference is if the bike was more "straight up" at one fill-up than at the other - it depends on the slope of the pavement at the pump, and how you park it, with the front wheel all the way to the left or more straight. Then, there is your eye sight - but I don't want to go there, having bifocals myself. :whistle:

5 fill ups will give you an average that is more representative of actual mileage. Working with a smaller tank is more likely to give you greater variations.

When I was in college 50 years ago, there was one guy who kept raving about the gas mileage his VW Beetle got, ridiculing everyone else's car. So my prankster buddies (and I) kept putting gas in his tank when he wasn't around, even causing him more amazement and bragging, because he never got low in the tank. Then we started siphoning gas out, and his mileage dropped precipitously and drove him totally friggin nuts. And he stopped bragging. ,

We used to loosen the lug nuts of this one guy's left rear wheel all the time while he was in class. Your prank is much less dangerous that ours was.... Ah, the wisdom of youth.
