They were all avoidable and they were all the riders fault. The first was a rider following too close behind a pick up truck. The traffic up front stopped suddenly and the rider didn't. He hit the back of the pickup truck killing himself and putting his girlfriend in the hospital.

The second was a rider who lost his girlfriend off the back of the bike doing 55 mph. Since it was a fatality they gave him a breathalizer test on the site and locked him up for DUI.

The third was a rider who lost control of his bike and went off the road.

Be careful out there folks. Don't drink and ride. Ride defensively and ride safe.

That's a shame.

I wonder what the statistics are for the amount of motorcycle fatalities when that many riders get together in one place.

I know some motorcyclists have ego issues, unfortunately. It's bad enough that they put themselves at stake, but to put someone else's life on the line too is ridiculous.

Safety gear in Daytona was a pair of sunglasses.

That is very sad, and good point to mention not drinking and riding. That seems to cause a lot of accidents, according to the books.

We had another fatality Friday night when a rider lost control of his bike in a curve 200 feet from his home. He died of head injuries. He was not wearing a helmet. It's sad because if he'd been wearing a helmet he'd be alive today. Note that South Carolina does not require helmets and I prefer it that way.

Living in the Daytona area, Bike Weeks are amateur hour and should be avoided. I had to run my kid over to a school event on the beach and was shocked, no, make that annoyed at the volume of people riding bikes that they could not control. If you need two lanes to handle your machine, you probably shouldn't be trying to ride and use your cell phone at the same time.

Yep, most of the poeple that go to the rallies are people that only go to rallies, never riding their bikes inbetween.
