I want to know how man miles this little engine can crank out before needing a rebuild. So, who here has the most miles on his or her bike?
By the way this is a great little community you guys/gals got here.

dang low miles so far, I might as well post mine. Bike got 4600, but they will come up quick. I bought it two weeks ago and already put on 500 miles. I hope this little thumper can crank out 60,000k before needing an overhaul.

I've tried fixing that poll.
I have no idea what's going on.
There was a similar issue before.

Are you saying a 3 wheeler CanAm ?? They are a whole new kind of riding and a lot more work intensive than a GZ.

8000. I've been wondering this too because this is used more as a starter bike than something a longtime biker goes out and gets. I got mine in sept 2011 with 3400 and it's a 2001 so I doubled the mileage of the first 10 years in 6 months. I take riding seriously and by the responses of a few of you it looks like you take it seriously too. I've thought about upgrading to a bigger bike *gasp* because I love highway riding but I've done a couple of 3+ hour rides so I think this little puppy will keep up with me for a while. Something I learned about the California Highway Patrol is they buy Harleys new, run them in service for 40k miles and no matter what pull them off the road, rebuild the top end, then use them to the 80k mile mark in training and parades and non-highway harassment things and then auction them off after 80k. So if I get to even 40k before my engine blows I'll call it a success on a bike I bought for $900 bucks

I kind of felt bad offering him $1100 and he took it.
But then again kind of felt he didn't deserve it if he wasn't going to ride it. LOL

when i got her (2006 gz250) she had 5200 miles, that was two weeks a go Sunday. now she has 6100, just from going to and from school and two trips to that bike store. funny since previous owner/owners, in 6 years only put 5000 mile and i already in two weeks put almost 1000.

Resurrecting this: Mine just crossed the 12,000 mile threshold, 10,000 miles after the starter clutch exploded and took out an oil passage on the side of the crankcase.

I think I'm sitting at 8300 or ballpark. The title says 3200. I highly doubt I put 5000 on it sence July 2013 but who knows. Just clocked 230 miles Sunday afternoon and I'm on my second oil change....what can I expect to break in the near future?

My tires were really showing wear at that mileage. For the rest, nothing, as long as you maintain it like it says in the book.

I have some updating to do...got my GZ250 in late October 2013 and rode it for 2 days when I slipped coming into my gravel driveway. (acorns, wet leaves etc) I dislocated my thumb and couldn't ride again that year. I am so happy to report that I have put over 7000 miles on my bike since late April 2014! It's been the best year ever! The weather has been just fantastic in
North Central Illinois and my mileage will probably top out at 8000 before I park her! I have lots of pics of all my travels. Posting them soon! I think one of the last pics I posted was of me practicing in a school parking lot scared ----less!

Did you do anything specific to reach such a mileage except from regular maintenance? Also do you think the GZ could handle a "long trip" ?
Edit : I wish there was a "general" thread, I have so many questions about different aspect of the bike but none of them really justify hijacking this thread or opening a new one.

The GZ will handle a long trip with ease. That is the short answer............the long answer is also yes but with certain conditions. You won't want to spend any time on freeways trying to compete with fast moving traffic. The GZ is not fast enough or big enough. It is what it is. Stay on lesser highways with a lower speed limit, less traffic and enjoy the ride. Lynda rode her GZ half way across Canada and back with nary a hiccup. We stayed at 60 mph most of the time and everything was just peachy. Secondary highways are more scenic and relaxing for a long haul. Back roads have more twisties for entertainment and boredom relief.
The downside to travelling on the GZ is you always have to think ahead to determine how to tackle hills, headwinds and not getting run over by bigger traffic. Lynda moved up to a M-50 Suzuki(800cc) and enjoyed the extra power and size.
Any more questions of any sort can be addressed when you start a new thread of your own. Don't be shy.

Bought a new 2009 model in 2011 and have been riding into work most days. It has just over 58,000 miles on it. It has been a very reliable piece of transportation. Just had the valves adjusted and it is running really smooth. The engine was running a bit hot, I think the adjustment may have solved that problem.

I bought my 2009 GZ in 2010 with 1200 miles on. Original owner dropped it and got hurt. His loss my gain. Even with the few issues I'm currently dealing with, I've managed 27k+ miles. That being said, I try to stick to the maintenance schedule for the major things. Oil changes are super easy and cheap enough that I buy my oil filters 12 at a time. Chain cleaning and lubing are done every oil change as well.
