We found a 2000 GZ 250 with 8,300 miles on it for $1,200. It cleaned up nice and seems to run well.
We hit a local parking lot for the first time tonight. I've been riding for 11 years and have three other bikes (94 1400 Intruder, 2006 Suzuki S83 and a 96 1500 Goldwing). Now she won't be on the back and will see that it is much more fine driving a bike than riding on the back :rawk:

Welcome Ross Man. Always glad to hear about a new GZ rider. Be sure to enroll your Lady in a rider's course and buy a copy of Proficient Motorcycling for her to read from cover to cover. I will suggest you not teach her to ride. You will just teach her your bad habits if you have any and you are too closely involved personally to be an impartial instructor. Been there done that in a previous life.
The GZ is an ideal 1st bike. Handles well, not too heavy and forgiving if she makes an oops while riding around the parking lot.
Post a pic of your new rider on her bike. We want to see her smile.

She is only 5'1" so the GZ fits her well. Yes, I'm going to order Proficient Motorcycling. The classes are already filled this year, but she will certainly be taking the class next year. She won't leave the parking lot until she knows she is ready.

Yup, a perfect fit. And the best dressed Lady on the street too. Looking good.

Awesome! Looks just like my bike. Hope you both have good fun. And... what? All filled up for the rest of 2012? There's about 15 different places in my area that hold classes once or twice a week, every week. That's 20-30 classes per week. Maybe you're not looking it up right. I wouldn't think that Michigan would be that much less represented than Sacramento.

Where I live they were booked until july. I just walked in hoping someone would not show up. So did two other guys.

We all got to take the course.

We will check next month a little more and see if there are any openings....or try the walk in thing. Right now she needs parking lot practice before she takes the safety class. She has never drove a stick. Currently she is trying to master taking off in first gear...getting the friction zone down. She is getting better...we have been out twice and she only stalls taking off about 20% of the time now. We ordered the Proficient Motorcycling book and she has read my old MSF manual, watched youtube videos, etc. She should be putting it in second gear soon. Thanks for all of the responses.
