I know this has been covered before but just wanted to check before I order a windshield for my wife. Bike is 2009, she is 5.4, and I am looking at the SlipStreamer SS-28 Sport Fairing. I like the 4 point mounting system and we are looking at the smoked tint. Any thoughts ??? Has anything new come out ???
Thanks in advance JIM

I had one of those on my bike and liked it alot. It's a little tricky to get on and adjusted but much easier with 2 people, very stable, does a good job of blocking the wind on your face and hands and looks pretty good. Like with all windshields you'll have to play a little with the height and angle of rake to eliminate air flow coming up underneath and any buffeting around your head. At 5'4" she should still be able to see right over the top of it of it's set low, right over the headlight.

You would be best to find one locally if possible. Most members here are quite a distance from you and shipping would likely add a great deal to the cost of a used shield unless you can get it for virtually nothing.
Bike shows sometime offer good discounts on new products. Swap meets can have a good variety of parts to fit almost any bike which may help you. Maybe look in a wrecking yard for an undamaged shield on a wrecked bike.

Just a heads-up when mounting a shield. Cover the headlight and tank with towels to prevent scratches and dings. You just know you will drop a tool or clamp.

Thanks WW, but here i know that at least three people own a gz and none with windshield. I'll try to lurk on some, but at the end, if 100+ € will be in plus in my wallet i'll go to order one via i-net or go to Louis shop in austria and buy one. First also i need to get a grip of the bike and see if i'll be in mentaly and financially state of buying vz 800, honda shadow or kawasaki 900 classic in years to come, which became my favourite (kawa) for last few days ;) But first GZ 250 - THE GREAT... lol

Goggle: Slipstream windshield. There are a number of shields that will fit and look good on the GZ. The SS-28 is wider and offers a fair bit of protection from rain, wind and cold if you find yourself in those conditions.

I had a National Cycle Plexstar 2 on my GZ and I highly recommend it. It had four attaching points and having it protect your hands was a double plus. You can see it here:

Do you have a couple pics with the shield on the GZ?

Sure. :) It kept the wind off the hands nice and it was big enough to keep the wind off the body.

LOL It was tall. But I was still able to look over the top of it and I'm only 5'8". It did give protection in all conditions.

Here's a few pics of the SS28 on my bike - I think it was a 15" height (or maybe it was 18"), but it deflected the wind over my head, and very well protected my hands which was good in the cold.

From MC Enterprises.
That was a real nice bike and I made it just the way I wanted it, then, like everything and everyone else, I moved on to bigger and ? better things.

I put MC bars on Lynda's M-50. They seem to be a quality product with a good finish.

@ mrlmd1, Thanks for the pictures but why CLEAR instead of TINT ??? Your thoughts and how was keeping the CLEAR clean, was cleaning it a PIA, looks close on the inside

FLAJIM. Clear or tinted shields are a personal choice sometimes determined by price, availability and asthetics. Hunkered down behind a tinted shield in the rain after dark would be a consideration for safety. Under normal conditions you want to be looking over the top edge of the shield for the best view and less reflections.
A handy tip for everyone. Shields get scratched and marked with use. Polish the shield with Lemon Pledge after cleaning.

Yipee, finally found the lost pics of Lynda's GZ. The shield is a Spitfire 06 if my memory still works.

Yea WW it's a "Spitfire".I had one on mine for awhile.I had trouble keeping it tight & vibration free.I upgraded to a National Cycle "street shield" EX. It is supported by 4 points rather than 2 points on the Spitfire, making it much sturdier. It is also quick detachable.
 :)

I prefer clear because I want to see the road in front of me better. As you are looking right over the top of the shield, the tinted shield does not block any light to shade your eyes, and it also impairs night riding. The shields do not scratch easily and there would be no difference in scratchability or resistance to scratching with either clear or tinted.
Not to discredit the Spitfire, but it is narrower than the SS28 and the Plexistar so it does not cover the grips and protect your hands from the wind and road debris, and it also uses a 2 point mount rather than a 4 point mount, so it vibrates and rattles around a bit more and is less likely to stay put.

I must have been very lucky with the Spit Fire on Lynda's GZ. After I put it on it stayed put and never vibrated one bit. The "M" was a different case with a 4 point attachment. Had a bolt back out and dissappear on one ride and then the darn thing almost totally shook loose when she went across the prairies last summer at a very high speed which is understandable.
Time for some Lok-Tite.

Thanks guys for all the replies. I bought a CLEAR SlipStreamer SS-28 Sport Fairing from Amazon for 134.41. I hope she likes it and it breaks the wind.

Some riders need a shield to block the wind and make them feel less exposed. I'm sure she will like it.

Get her to help you put it on - 4 hands are better than 2 to get it right and one person can hold it while the other tightens the mounts. And she will feel like she accomplished something to add to her bike. And you can both curse together while you do it, then marvel at how well it works when you are done.
As with all windshields, you will have to play with the adjustment to get it right for her - as a general starting point, set the rake (angle of the windshield) parallel with the angle of the forks. If there is too much buffeting of air around her head or from underneath the screen, try then slight adjustments changing the angle either backwards or forwards until you find the sweet spot for her. The height should be set so that she can see straight out just over the top of it rather than though it.

OK, I bought and put on the SS28. My problem is clearance. Even with the lower mounting hardware mounted in the front/ outside of the shield, the shield itself still touches the tank when the bars are turned to the lock position. Did anyone else have this problem ?? Any fixes ??
Thanks again JIM

Trim a little off with a hack saw blade. File it smooth and polish the edge with a piece of cardboard. Very unsophisticated way to do things but it works.

I didn't have this problem when I mounted it on my bike. You may have to fiddle with the adjustments or reverse the clamps.
Where does it hit the tank, what part of the shield hits?
When I put a windshield on my S50 the very lower corners of the shield touched the tank with the bars hard over to each side, and I stuck on a few of those self-sticking bumpers/cushion feet (those little round clear silicone or rubbery things you have inside cabinets to keep the doors from banging on the frame, or to elevate something off a glass table) and they stopped the shield from contacting the tank. Because they are clear and relatively small you don't even notice them and they do protect the tank from getting scratched by the shield.
