View Full Version : Stock Tool Kit and Tire Removal

I was pulling the tires off my GZ yesterday to do some fit up work. Got my socket set, ratchets, wrenches and various pliers out and laid out for the job. I had taken the seat off and had the little stock tool kit lying on my tool layout board. I thought what the hell, I wonder how far I could get with just the stock kit. Guess what? Got the complete tire off without so much as touching my Craftsman’s! Did the front too. The only thing I used on the front was a socket for the front axle because the one in the stock kit was really cheap and it was on there pretty tight. Still, if needed, I could probably have done it. You don’t think much about getting your tires off except like the old days where when you got a flat and tore a tire up. Like in the no cell phone days out on a lonely two lane road or in a jungle somewhere in the Philippines! Find a stump, piece of wood, old car rim, whatever, prop the bike up and pull the tire/rim. You flagged down a ride or a bus. Ride to someone’s or someplace to get it fixed and then got a ride back and put it back on. Cost was usually a six pack! And yes, I got that tee shirt more than once. Or how does that go here, BTDT!

Of course, a center stand always helps! I need to find one that bolts up to this bike.

Just a thought here. Maybe the GN had a factory center stand. Might work but the GZ exhaust system might interfere on the right side. Maybe try a Google on Suzuki Global to see what else is/was available from Suzuki with a center stand.

I think we came up with a centre stand discussion a coupla years ago. At that time we tossed it around and got nowhere, fast. :)

There's damn sure some kind of a plate down there that looks like it. If you can't find one, you should be able to make one. If I can find another ebay special, I might try it.

I believe that plate is for the canister on the California models.But you should be able to modify it to use a center stand.My 454 had a center stand.I took it off,because I didn't like the look of it.

Gz, no. They're coming back off when I get the new tires, tubes and rim bands. Other than a 1st gear buzz up my hard pack drive, it's parked until it's safe. I have a 130 front on it right now and think I’m going to scrounge a 120. The 130 really fills the front fender so I’ll try a 120 and see. DISCLAIMER NOTE LISTEN UP!!! I am using scrap tires just to fit fenders and get a general look. BUY NEW TIRES! And I am glad you mentioned the torque thing. A temporary road repair means going back and correctly torqueing all the fasteners ASAP. They have torque values for a reason. Remember, you only have two wheels!

If it's made for a cannister, will it be strong enough for a centre stand, without bending? Dunno - just asking. :)

Too funny, I saw that welded mount bracket under the frame of my wifes GZ, and I immediately thought to myself "the stupid PO must have removed the centerstand and threw it in the trash:" Guess I was wrong. I have the luxury of a Titan MC lift. So I ended up clamping the front wheel, and using my MC scissor jack and a 2X3 wood block wedged under that "mystery bracket" worked perfect getting the rear up so I could change the rear brakes shoes.
