Thanks. I am finding this forum very helpful already. Went through lot of threads on beginner stuff.
BTW, what kind of jacket/pants you would suggest? Do they come with armor or need to buy that separately.
Thanks.

Welcome to the fold. Jackets and pants are a great idea if you really hate scars and road rash. MotorcycleGear.com has a nice closeout section for some excellant bargains. I personally wear Joe Rocket stuff and it works for me. They have a textile waterproof jacket for $51(mine is in the mail with optional CE approved backpad)and also look at The AlterEgo models of pants and jacket. I have the older AE pants and they are a decent fit and comfy. As a side note I'll add this about inside rain liners, too inconvenient so plan on an actual rain suit in time. Cheaper at a work wear store.
Glove, you gotta have gloves. Be leary of ordering online. Find a shop and try on lots of bike gloves for fit and flexability. Some fingers are just a little short and will never feel comfy. Test sit a couple pair on a bike and feel how they feel gripping the bars.
It's all about comfort. If you aren't comfy you won't want to wear the gear. Boots and headgear also need an on the spot fitting for comfort. Have fun and ride safe.

I'll let someone else make jacket and helmet recommendations. For legs I use these:
http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/motorcycle-shin-guards/
They don't offer the same protection that full pants do but I find I'm much more willing to wear these then pants. The fit well under long pants and nobody ever notices them like that. When I wear shorts, I get looks like, "what's wrong with that guys legs" or maybe "Hey mister, I saw Mad max go that way"!
For me, I think they would save my legs from a stupid fall at 30 MPH or less. Over that speed, THEY are probably wearing ME for protection!
Spiffy leg protection you got there. Can't knock the price either.

Yeah, dress funny and make a statement at the same time. The kids probably imagine you are a Zombie Hunter out for a stroll. Armor is cheaper and easier to acquire than human body parts that fit.

Was just scouting Joe Rocket stuff and realized the Atomic 3 is only $69 on closeout. Better vented than my Atomic 2 model. A really comfy jacket and my fav for the last 6 years.
Surprise ! My new $51 dollar arrived today. Boy is that thing a busy jacket till all the zippers and folds are sorted out. Should work well for it's intended purpose though. I bought one size larger with the idea of wearing my TourMaster heated full jacket liner under it. Not too bad a fit but a ride will tell the real story. Now I can be warm and waterproof without a rainsuit and any other heavy clothing.

Welcome to the forum !! :2tup:
I recently got a Mossi leather jacket from sportsmansguide, their MC clothing selection is never that big but if they have a deal it's usually quite good.

Welcome to the forum from South Carolina. If you haven't already I'd recommend you take the MSF BRC (Motorcycle Safety Foundation Bais Rider Course). It's the best investment in your safety you can make. Ride safe.

Your chain will look better longer by using DuPont with Teflon to lube it. Works well and is cheaper than most chain lubes. Big box hardware and home centers usually carry the stuff.

Yup, ATGATT. One of the coffee crowd had an oops last year while showing off riding his Busa'. A T-shirt and jeans kinda guy. No gloves and sneakers were his choice of the day. At least the law forced him to wear a helmet. At 80+ MPH on one wheel he lost control and came down really hard. After a 6 month hospital stay he still only has the use of one hand/arm and will never play his guitar or piano again. No riding either. Jeans last 3 seconds or 3 feet when sliding, he slide and bounced a lot further with a lot of road rash and blood letting. Some metal where bone used to be in his body. I really have no sympathy for him as he was the captain of his own ship. As for the folks riding with him, they have a lasting memory of the stupid fool.
At least he didn't take anyone down with him.

Thanks guys. I bought the Atomic 3 jacket - feel good about this. Wouldn't have found about this without your help.
Also bought FirstGear Mesh Tex 2.0 Pants and Scorpion EXO-700 Helmet. - Will see how this buy turns out.
I guess, I will buy gloves from a local store.

Good choice with pants. The padding in the hip area is a fine idea for added protection even in a low impact fall. I might suggest upgrading the knee armor though. The foam in the knee area is just so-so.
Also you can have the mating zipper for the pants sewn to the back of your riding jacket so they will zip together. The JR zip is 8 inches and the other for the pants looks longer. I like being able to zip them together. Less chance of the jacket riding up your back if you are in a slide.

Welcome here from SoCal. Risk management is the name of the game on anything with less than 4 wheels (especially your health insurance). Your life and possibly family may depend on you :) So if you ride a motorcycle and have family that depends on you, you have maximum responsibility to take care of yourself. Unlike a car (cage with airbags), it hurts seriously to crash on a motorcycle (not that I know from personal experience on a motor-driven cycle but have experience on human powered cycle). Do the best you can afford $$ to protect yourself. EG, I added chest body armor after heart surgery after I was "allowed" to ride a motorcycle again :)
