Folks I have received enough responses to make this a re ALity!!! The dates will be Aug 17-19 with the ride being on the Aug 18. Here are the ride details: We will have breakfast in Franklin at the village Inn, visit the Custom cycle shop, and head out some back roads to Wedowee AL. From Wedowee we will hit hwy 48 to Lineville AL. In Lineville we will get on hwy 49 and ride it up to hwy 281 which takes us to the highest point in Bama which is Cheaha Mountain. After we tour the roads on the mountain we will return to 281 and head north toward Heflin AL. Near Heflin we pick up 78 for a short while and turn onto hwy 9 to Centre AL and Cedar Bluff AL. At Cedar Bluff we stay on Hwy 9 to Gaylesville. From Gaylesville we take hwy 35 to hwy 15 and ride around the rim of the Little River Canyon. It is approximately 15 miles around the canyon and somewhere in those 15 miles we will turn down into the canyon and check out the River. There will be rest stops and refreshment stops Along the whole route. This is Approximately a 165 mile round trip ride. If this is too short we could ride on up to Desoto Falls which tacks on another 20-25 miles. If it is too far I know a shorter way home. On the way back we will stop at Butner's mill for a seafood feast. It is 16.00 per head or you can order off the menu (steaks ,chicken ,hamburger etc).
Here are some places to stay :
Regency Lodge $45 dollars per night. Each room has two queen size beds, a microwave, and refrigerator. On hwy 27 in Franklin GA. They do not accept credit cards but the will accept reservations. Be sure to tell them you are here for there for the Rally. Ph: 706-675-0427.
Campers : Brush Creek(located on the Chattahoochee River) Rate $16.00 per night NO sewer hook up but does have a dump station It does have water and electricity.
Jerry
I have Jerry's contact info if you have questions. Please PM me if you want it.
I'm planning to go work permitting as is one other GZ rider I know of. It would be very nice to have a bunch of GZ250s show up for this and not leave us surrounded by Honda Rebels. I'm some what familiar with this area and expect it to be a very nice ride.

I'd love to go, I just need to finish my tiny bore kit to reduce the displacement of my GZ to 25cc ...
Seriously though, I probably won't be able to be a part of that group but it sounds like a lot of fun.
Take care,
Jonathan

Right now the only thing that will stop me is weather and work. Hopefully nothing will break. See you there.

I know of one more rider that is planning to come. So there could be three of us.
There are several members hear that are with in easy riding distance of Franklin so there could be more.

I just spoke with my buddy Mau. Assuming the wives say "yes", we are actually thinking about going. We're not 100% decided yet, so we'll see. It might be kind of nice to show the twin cylinder, underacheiving rebels what singles are all about.
Mauricio was the guy selling his GZ in the FOR SALE section. Looks like he might be keeping it afterall.
We'll let you know,
Jonathan

I don't think there has ever been more than a couple of GZ250 riders show up for one of these. This could be a new record.

I'll be there. Am going to try to get a room at either Regency Lodge or Hilltop Inn. If you guys want some info, here are the numbers:
Regency Lodge (706) 675-0427
Hilltop Inn (706) 675-6621
There are also motels in Roanoke, AL and LaGrange, GA (both about 20 miles from Franklin) in case there are no more rooms to be had.
Would like more info on breakfast and the shop tour, though, just in case I need to drive up that morning.
Thanks, and looking forward to meeting you all!
jonathan180iq

Yeah. As much as I might enjoy meeting you guys, I don't really care about a shop tour. It might be best if we just get up early and ride down to meet the group.
To steal a line from Honda:

I'm looking forward to the shop tour. I just don't want to miss it if I have to drive up that morning.

I'm not really interested in the Custom Bike Shop Tour myself. My idea of custom is to weld up a better mounting system so I can get some bigger boxes mounted on my bike. :)
I don't like choppers. Never have. Fancy paint looks pretty but I don't want a bike I'm afraid to ride.

Anyone know the northern most point of the ride?
Trigoss and I will probably come down on our own on Saturday and meet everyone for breakfast.
Then, as we are mid-ride, we'll find the northern most part of our loop and branch off on our way back home.
Knowing the northern point will let me map out our route back.
Thanks in advance,
Jonathan

Based on the direction that you've seen here, I made a Google map so we can get a good visual of what the ride will entail.
I'll be breaking off from the group around Ft. Payne, AL. for my ride back home.
I hope this link works. I tried to simply paste the photo but it wouldn't let me save it as an image.

I use a screen captures to save Google maps is I want images other wise I use tinyurl to send the link. If you send the link Google will recreate the map when someone uses it. Unless you use Linux and Firefox I can't help much.

Is this confirmed? I can guarantee that we will be in attendance.
Since we're all coming from difference areas, we may want to exchange phone numbers and ride in together. Or, we can meet for breakfast or someting. Let me know.

Confirmed for me,
I am coming from Indiana and will arrive Thursday evening. I am taking vacation, and riding on down to Florida Sunday. Around a 2000 mile trip for me :-)
I have reservations in the motel in Franklin. Yippee.

I'll be there Friday. Had planned on driving up around noon or so. I'm about an hour and a half to two hours away. If you guys want to meet somewhere along the way, I'm game, just let me know where and when. I was considering riding up 29 through LaGrange and then take 27 up to Franklin, but can meet folks in Roanoke instead (431 and 22) and then head over east from there.

We'll be leaving on Firday, afterwork. So, expect us there sometime Friday night. We'll be camping somewhere near Franklin, I don't yet know where.
We'll only be with you guys for the main ride on Saturday. We are going to hit US-11 out of Ft. Payne on the way up and return home from the top of the route.
At least we will be able to meet and greet with you gents on Saturday morning.

On second thought, it'll be hard cooking with no open flame. Aren't there fire restrictions down there as well?

For those of you who didn't go, all I can say is that you really missed a good time. And for those of you who showed up for a 10 minute visit and then left - you should have stuck around for the rides. MUCH FUN! That was really a good, friendly group of folks. My hat is off to the Rebel Riders.

Hey Bob,
Just made it home a couple of hours ago. Too tired at the moment to post a whole trip report. All you guys who missed this rally, you missed a good time which was had by all.
Jonathan, you two guys should have rode with us. Even though we didnt make it to the little river canyon, we had fun.
I rode 550 miles yesterday from Cove Key, Florida to Huntsville, Alabama. Today, was an easier day from Huntsville to Scottsburg In.
Better synopsis tomorrow.

OK, I give up. Where is Cove Key FL. Did you take the scenic route over to JAX from TLH? How is that back tire doing? Not much left of it by now I imagine. Sounds like you put another thousand on your bike since I saw you last.
Glad you made it home safe. We sure did enjoy your visit.

Hey David - how many miles did you ride total on this trip? It's got to be quite a few! Did the "bear skin" do you good? You've got me thinking seriously about making that same mod until I can get a decent seat.

ok, my bad,
Not cove key,
I spent a couple of nights at Cedar Key.
I left Tallahassee, went to Live Oak, spent a night in Live Oak; ran around there and over to Lake City. Looked at property in both areas, went down to Gainesville, Williston, and Morristown (sp?), looked at property then scooted over to Cedar Key. Loved it there. Didnt make it to Jacksonville.
I rode a total of 2583 miles on my little gz250. 300+ miles at Interstate speed. I cleaned it up yesterday, with a wash and wax, chain clean and lube (while in Live Oak, bought some Lithium Grease-good stuff but messy). I have to order me a set of tires. The back tire is bald down the middle (no line at all now Bob) and the front only has a couple hundred of miles left on it.
Wife is mad at me: rode about 100 miles yesterday with my neighbor :-)
The bear skin (actually a sheepshin cover off of my endurance horse saddle-actually made for an English saddle) did great until my 550 mile ride from Cedar Key (not Cove key- hey I was tired) to Huntsville. Did that in 3 stops and my rear got sore and I got dehydrated. I rode the other 300 miles home the next day.
I was very tired when I got home on Thursday but the wife had no pity. I had to work on the horse fence on Friday, digging and installing about a dozen new fence post and yesterday evening I had to sand the front deck. Honey-dos, honey-dos, they never end.
Some day this week I will post my gas mileage for the entire trip. I will say this, my gas mileage from the south of Georgia (Bob, the place we stopped and filled up below the knat line) and in Florida sucked. Worst gas mileage I have ever gotten; must be some kind of blend difference.
Later guys.

OK Cedar Key computes.
Odd that your front tire is wearing so fast my front tire has 18000 miles on it and still has good tread. I expect it will be gone buy the end of the year. I'm sure glad that rear tire got you home OK.
One of my tanks of gas in that same area was in the low 50s. Mbe we got some gnats in the tank. I think I still have one in my ear. That was the craziest thing. As many of thos damn things as there were you would have thought my windshield would be plastered with them. There were hardly any on the bike when I got home.
That was some hard riding in some very hot weather. You should have stopped if for nothing else than to chug down a bottle of water. When its hot I carry watter and gator aid so I can drink it warm. It gets adsorbed faster and you can drink it with out inducing a migraine.
I really enjoyed our ride down together. I hope we can do it again some time.

Bob,
If we buy land in Florida (wife is planning on driving down this weekend and looking over land in Lake City, we will then move down there in a year or two. We will definately ride together again (along with your wife). I loved riding thru those wild life areas down there (quiet, no cars, beautiful scenery) and maybe we can ride thru those areas someday. later
