View Full Version : Original / Actual Miles?

I have a 2007 GZ that had 1,300 on the speedometer when purchased 2 months ago. Just had shop check front brake and they said it was "half worn" and was excessive for such low mileage. Do you think this is original mileage on bike or perhaps bike actually has more mileage--maybe speedometer was replaced? Not a big deal because bike is in great shape but I am curious.

ALSO...clutch cable covering is worn due to contact / scraping against base where ignition is when handle bar is turned. Anyone with this problem? Thanks.

I would think that it is more likely that the front brake was used excessively causing the wear.A lot of new riders use the front brake more than they should and never use the rear brake.You should be able to move your clutch cable enough,that it is not rubbing.I never had that issue.

id say the shop you took it to might not know exactly how thick a motorcycle brake pad is new. its not like a cars @1/2 inch thick.

I live in the mountains, so every ride starts with a long downhill run with a low speed limit. I only get around 3000km (2000miles) out of a set of brake pads. :cry:

i have 31K miles on 2005 GZ. Still have original rear brake pads and working good. Last time 2009 when I had the rear tire change they were still good. I tend to use the front brake more, of course use both but my front pads wear out fast as I use them more because I can replace them myself easily without going through the tire removal process.

Just my style.

The shop could be correct. When my son used the GZ I am riding he only got about 3000 miles from a set of front pads. He admits that he did not use the rear brakes very well. I seem to get about 6000 from a set of front pads. The last set was emergency set donated from a dealer demo bike with 1400 miles. I got an additional 3500 miles off of them. So someone new is likely to use the front brakes more heavily while learning the brake balance of the bike.

With that, I agree that you would think that you would get more miles from a set of pads than one does.
