hi all and welcome new comers

its time for tires. again don't have a clue as to what are good tires, great tires and junk tires. looking at the tires on the bike which are stock it seems like there not a common tire. i would think that some brands last longer then others, some have better grip then others, etc

what brand on tires have you used and what do you think of them

thanks

gregoI always ran a 100/90-16 on the front. The 100 is much easier to get than the 110,and works fine.

avons are top end tires, so they are a good choice for sure, but more money. my bike has a 130 up front and a 150 in the rear so its not realllty a huge deal the size just get in the ball park like blain had

I like Dunlop Tires. I got 40,000 miles one time on a rear tire for my Yamaha.

It's true. However I couldn't get more than 22,000 out of a front tire on the Yamaha.

Yep...no joke. It was a Dunlop 401 140/90/15 with tube.

This was back when my Yamaha XV535 was my
only form of transportation for 12 years straight
so I was really racking up the miles each year.

hi all

the confusion continues. the bike shop came back with a kenda set of tires....instead of a 110/90-16 he is suggesting a 110/70-16 what does that mean to me and the handling of the bike ??

A 110/70-16 is a lot lower profile than the original. The 100/90-16 is much closer to the original, and will not affect your handling.I used the 100/90-16 for 3 1/2 years with no problems.

geezer~

Believe me when I replaced it...that Tire was Slick Willie.

Wasn't able to repeat those results. Got only about 29,000 2nd time.

I would stick with the size you are supposed to use.

If you don't you may encounter Fender Clearance issues
and/or making your Speedometer become inaccurate.
If the brand you want doesn't have your size then
it's time to consider any other brands that fit.

The 110/90-16 is very hard to get in any brand. That is why most of us change to the 100/90-16.That size actually makes the speedometer more accurate,as it is inaccurate from the factory.

We were talking about the Kenda tire, which is a cheaper tire, that does not come in a 110.Most of them tires are double the money of a Kenda.Plus them tires are meant for sport bikes, and have soft compounds that wear faster than cruiser tires. For me in Canada I would have to pay outrageous shipping charges, and than pay to have it mounted & balanced. No to mention, that my dealer would be pissed.I can buy a Kenda tire and have it mounted & balanced for around $75.00.Plus I have a grateful & happy dealer.

I just bought a Dunlop D404 Rear tire for $79 from my local dealer. Now if I could just get my friend to true my rim! Maybe I should have a whack at it.

Repeat of old posts, over and over, but I got a 120/80 Cheng Shin for the front and it was just fine, no appreciable difference in any of these just slightly off sizes that anyone would notice.

There aren't many tire options for our bike that come in a matching set. There are, however, many options if you don't mind mixing up tire brands and/or going to a slightly smaller tire up front.

The factory tires sizes are: 110/90-16 (F) & 130/90-15 (R)

The rim width for the front wheel is 2.5" and the rear wheel width is 3.0"
That being the case, a size 100/90-16 front tire will work on this bike. It does have an overall diameter decrease of 9mm over the 110/90-16 but that isn't really very drastic.

Samato has verified that alternate tire size 100/90-16 will mount up with no problem.

As well, the 120/80-16 alternate tire size is another choice for the front tire and has been successfully mounted by MRLMD1.

Factory replacement tires: (110/90-16 & 130/90-15)
Dunlop D404 (only available through a Suzuki dealer)
Metzeler ME77 (only available through a Suzuki dealer)
Cheng Shin C906 & C907 (possibly no longer available)

Rear Factory Replacements:
Kenda Challenger
Pirelli MT66 (Route 66)
Maxxis M6103
Cheng Shin Marquis
Metzeler Me 77

Factory Replacement Front:
GBC Green Shark
Metzler Lasertec
Pirelli Sport Demon
Avon Roadrider AM26
Conti Ultra TKV11
Kenda K671 & K673

100/90-16 Front:
Bridgestone BT45
Maxxis M6002
Cheng Shin C6000
Kenda Cruiser
IRC Durotour

Matching tires with low profile front: (100/91-16 & 130/90-15)

The Chen Shing 906 used to be a 110/90, but it's now a 120/80.

jonathan180iq~

Yeah...some Dealers throw a fit when you don't buy
a Tire from them and there's usually a higher charge
for putting on one that you bring in. Ask ahead of time.

If your Information is correct then it's good to know
the Dealers can get the right size since I wasn't able
to find it as often as I expected. With that in mind if
the Dealer can't get the right size...find another Dealer.

I can't see any reason to use the incorrect size unless
you're getting a really good deal on it. And from my past
experience and with Friend's experiences with Cheng Shin Tires
I wouldn't buy them unless I was going to immediately sell the Bike.
Sure you save money by using them putting them on compared to other
Tires but then you lose money because they have the shortest Tire Life of all.

And to correct myself from what I earlier said, I had a Dunlop 401 on
the front and a 491 on the rear that I got the exceptional mileage on.

I have read this all with interest...don't need tires yet, but how does the original factory ME77 rate compared to all the others?
