I doubt very much that it would be stable at a standstill, let alone at speed.
I'll bet $100 that without those tethers that thing flips over to one side and decapitates the rider while muching his faliing legs into wood chips. ;)

Well..... that's how they started testing the "flying bedstead" just after WW11. It took a lot of experiments, but eventually turned into the Harrier jump jet. :)
