The person who sold me my bike didn't give me the owner's manual and said they couldn't find it. I found a few on eBay, but most don't say what year they are for. I figured they were all the same, but then I noticed one has a different cover than the other ones. My bike is a 2001...anyone have any suggestions on which one I should be looking for???
I know there are manuals i can download, but I'd rather have a printed copy that I can look through and have on hand. I could print out the downloaded one, but thats a lot of paper and ink and I can't fit it under the seat of the bike anyway.
Also, the previous owner's son laid the bike over, didn't do much damage at all, just some scratches from what I can tell, but he did knock off one of the bar end weights. It looks goofy with just one on there, so I took the other side off. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap place to get ones that look original? I looked on ebay and they have plenty of aftermarket ones, but I'd rather get original ones as I think it would look nicer. Wouldn't mind getting new grips too if I could find them cheap enough.

The bikes are all the same, any manual from 99 up will have the same info.If you are going to buy aftermarket grips, you will have no use for the end weights. They are supposed to suppress some of the vibrations.I took mine off and didn't notice any difference. You will buy aftermarket grips cheaper than buying the original bar weights

Well, ideally I would prefer OG grips and ends...if not, then OG bar ends...not really into the aftermarket stuff. But, I don't want to spend a lot of money on it either.

Try E-Bay or something like it for grips and bar ends. A dealer will be a lot more expensive and supply the same items. Many aftermarket suppliers have similar if not identical bar ends for less too.

the end weights. They are supposed to suppress some of the vibrations.
I've found that it's more to do with protecting the bits that stick out when the bike goes down, rather than preventing vibration. If the bike goes over, the bars are the first bits to make contact with the ground, so the long bolt holding the bar ends will get bent. You say that the bike's been laid down, so the missing bar end is probably a result of it doing its job. :) (I found that out from experience  )

Yea, I can agree with that. I would like to protect my bike as much as possible. I found these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Slug ... ccessories (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Slugger-Bar-Ends-BarEnds-Suzuki-GSXR-600-750-1000-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem1c1b8707e4QQitemZ12072 0918500QQptZMotorcyclesQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories)
do you think they would work? They look very similar to the original ones minus the stem that goes into the bar and the hex key bolt rather than the philips head bolt...

Yes,they will work. But the originals have vibration weights down in the bars that should be removed before you install the new ones.If you leave the pieces in the bars they will rattle around and drive you nuts.Do a search, there are a lot of threads on how to remove the original bar ends without leaving a lot of parts behind.

Thanks a bunch! :2tup: I know what you mean already, the one that broke off from the previous owner still has a piece of it in there rattling around, I'm assuming its the nut on the end or something. I can see the little rubber thing down in there and when I tilt the bike, I can hear the rattle. not sure how to get it out, but I'm going to try! I'm almost starting to think I should go ahead and keep my eyes pealed for some OG ones. But, maybe in the mean time these will do. I like keeping the bike as original as possible. Thanks again! And if you know where to find original ones, let me know! :)

One way to get the rubber out is to get a piece of wire coat hanger, bend the end into a hook, and fish the rubber out. Don't forget, when you take the other one off - Just loosen it, not completely unscrew it, then pull it out in one piece.
BTW, it says that the diameter of the E-bay bar ends is 28mm. The original bar ends are 32mm diameter. Just sayin'. :)

Thanks!! I will definitely do that! Now I just gotta figure out how to get that little metal piece out, not sure if its the weight and the nut, or just one or the other. Thinking about trying a magnet or something. If I can get over to my buddy's place, he has an air tank, might try blowing air through it too, haha.
Yea, I actually already have the other end off. I almost made that mistake though! I was unscrewing it, and then got to thinking...it CAN'T be THAT easy, plus I had heard the little clinking already, so I just started yanking instead and finally got it out after a few minutes of struggling. Its actually in pretty good shape too! Heavier than I thought.
Thanks for that info! I think I am going to go ahead and get them so I have something for now, but keep searching for a better OEM match. Its really awesome how you guys are so willing to help, thanks a bunch!

Well, I searched a little deeper and found a few, but they are all in pretty bad condition and none come with the hardware needed to install...guess the people who removed them didn't do it the proper way :(

Behind the rubber should just be a washer & nut. Check the one you got out in one piece to see. Blowing out might work, or one of those magnets on a telescopic rod. :2tup:

I just got an Owner's Manual on E-Bay for a few bucks
and the Seller threw in the Suzuki Riding Tips Manual.
I know these are online but I like having Books to hold
in my hand and not depend on turning on the Computer
to read. I also noticed both Books were printed in Spain.

Just got the Suzuki Factory Service Manual in the really nice red vinyl binder
with the removable pages for a really good price. This time printed in Japan.

Sorry to hear you paid so much. At least you admitting that is
good to share to give people an idea how much the Dealer wants.
I had found it on E-Bay for $44.96 and put it on my Watch List.
When I was keeping an eye on it, the Seller had put a temporary
40% reduction Sale that lasted a few days. I jumped on it at $26.98.
There is currently one listed on E-Bay for $34.95 if anyone wants one.
I realize these are free provided by Link on this Forum and for those like
me who prefer to have something to hold and not be Computer-Based, that it
can be Printed for the cost of the Paper. I really like the Suzuki Binder we both have.

I would go the E-bay purchase. Printer paper is cheap but how many ink cartridges will be needed to print an entire repair manual ? Just a thought.

I bought one of the owners manuals on ebay, still waiting for it to get in, might have to look into the service manual too.
