New from Ohio

Hello All,
I am so excited! My new GZ250 is being delivered tomorrow. This is my first bike and after a lot of searching and reading, I feel this is the right bike for me. I passed the MSF course last fall and have my endorsement but I have not been on a bike since the class. I was going to get a bigger bike a V-Star 650. I even purchased it, but I felt very anxious about my skill level and riding such a big bike. Even though I've been somewhat ridiculed about choosing such a small bike as my starter bike, I am confident I made the right decision. More experienced riders have warned that I will quickly outgrow my new baby. I am thankful for this forum because it made me more comfortable with my decision. I have read nearly every topic and have learned so much. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge and experience. As soon as my baby is delivered and it dries out here in Ohio, I will post photos. I feel like a little kid because I can hardly wait for tomorrow!

yay isnt getting a new bike the best!? i hope you do enjoy your bike but sooner or later you gonna wish you got the vstar. i had one and it got 62 mpg and was a much more capable bike. but even still the gz is some fun on the mountains, damn this bike will handle anything i throw at it!

Welcome Rionna. I can almost smell your excitment. Nothing like that new bike smell and the anticipation of a first ride. Getting the GZ is probably a wise decision in my opinion. It is a very forgiving and non-intimidating machine to sharpen your skills and gain the much needed confidence to ride a bike. My SO(Lynda)started on a GZ and eventually moved up to a Suzuki M-50. She has said more than once the GZ was a determining factor in confidence building and the best trainer on wheels. Looking forward to pics of the new bike.

Rionna, you made the right decision. I started on the GZ250 and moved up to my V-Star 650 Classic. It's a world of difference and I wouldn't have done it different. Yes, after this season you may feel you want something bigger. Yes, the V-Star 650 is going to feel huge. That will pass in a week. To learn slow speed maneuvers the GZ is very forgiving. It's nimble and will build your confidence fast - hence out growing it. But it's the way to go.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I came home during my lunch hour yesterday to receive delivery. I will take pics and post them soon. I spent the evening reading the manual and familiarizing myself with the controls and the bike. I didn't even ride! I want to be safe and will start the exercises today with the friction zone and then move forward to the stopping exercises. My main objective in getting this bike was to develop good safe riding skills so I want to take it slow. Can't wait for work to be over so I can get started! Thanks again, you all are a great source of encouragement.

best you learn how the bike operates and why the bike does what it does when you move its different levers and stuff. this will help you realize whats happening and why with the bike. my gf just dumped it in the parking lot this weekend. she was going straight into a bush so she nailed the throttle? and popped the clutch? and bike went flying dwn on its side. she has no idea why that happend. thats whats gonna happen if you dont have the mechanical aspect of the bike down. so i urge you get fimiliar with it and how it works

Welcome Rionna, It is better to start out on the GZ rather then the 650. As others say your confidence will grow with the GZ. It really is a fun bike toride. Hope you enjoy yours. We enjoy ours a lot. Ride Safe. GZBrian
