I'm looking to put saddlebags on my '05 GZ250, and I was wondering if I had to take off the rear seat. If I do need to do that, how would I go about removing it?

If you want to put them on permanently, you should put them under the seat. You need to remove the front seat to remove the two Allen bolts on the front of the rear seat than there is one bolt on the rear fender. You will also need a set of bag supports to keep the bags out of the spokes.

Oh.Welcome to the forum.
Yes,they bolt to each side of the rear fender. The left side cover has a lock on it.Your ignition key fits it,just turn to the right to unlock the seat. You can down load the manual for free. Here is the link.

Don't feel too sorry about not knowing. We were all there at one time or another. We are here to provide info, help and support.

Don't put your key in the under the seat plastic pocket. Just saying. On the other hand, that is a good place for registration and proof of insurance.

Also a good spot for a tire pressure guage and flashlight.

Thanks for the tip, I put it there.
And you should find your tool kit there as well.

most of the newer saddle bags have zippers. the center section will be installed permanently under the rear seat, and the saddle bags will zip away from the center section so you can remove them. thats what i have on the wife's GZ. good set of medium sized bags.

Do a search on here for the multiple threads about burning a hole or melting the underside of the right bag if it hangs down too close to the muffler/exhaust pipe. Depending on what size bags you get, you may have to heatproof the bottom of the right-sided bag with a metal shield of some sort, either pop riveted or bolted on to the bag. Many of these threads have pics.
