My Exhaust runs UNDER the frame. Is this normal for the GZ? BTW Mine is a 2000. I am asking because it means if I want to use the jack I have to take the exhaust off first. Any and all help is appreciated on if this is normal and if it isn't what is some other pipes I can get to change the lay of the exhaust.

This is the normal set up for the exhaust. What kind of jack do you use? :??: I always jacked mine up from the right hand side, using the side stand for stability.A scissor jack works well to lift either the front or rear in this manner. When lifting the rear I wrap a piece of velcro around the front brake lever,so the bike can't move. :)

I always have a piece of velcro wrapped round the mirror stem, to put round the brake lever when parking on a hill. I found out early, that leaving the bike in gear will NOT stop it rolling off the stand when parked facing down the hill.

If you park on a hill, face the bike uphill, then if it does roll a tiny bit, it won't roll the stand up going forward and fall over.
You can put a few blocks of 2x4s under the frame above the lift to get the lift off the pipe.

I do like the 2x4 idea, I do have to say that over all am nervous about stability with it on the lift. I am so used to 4 wheel vehicles OR 2 wheel that can be parked on it's handle bars while you take the pedals off... :P
Anyway thank you for the input and hopefully what you all said will help. I think it will. Because of how dense I can be can you do the little velcro trick and take a pic of it so I know 100% what you all meant. :)

Not possible in my neck of the woods. As you know, I live in the mountains, & a lot of the roads are narrow, one way, roads. If you're going downhill, & you need to park, there's only one way to do it.

I don't have a picture to post. All You do is wrap the Velcro around the handle bar & brake lever tightly so the front brake is applied.
 :)

"If you're going downhill, & you need to park, there's only one way to do it"
You could also put a little chock in front of your wheel to try and prevent it from rolling down the hill.

Just lay it on the side, the pavement digging into the tank will keep it from sliding down the hill... Then you don't have to worry about tipping over or falling down the hill... :P lol Just my 2cents.
lol I live in Virginia Beach, we have to plan an out of town trip if we want to see these things called "hills". Saw one on TV once, thought they were a myth.

I thought I saw one in Florida once too, but it wasn't more than 10' tall after riding about a 1/4 mile to get to the top of it.
Not like up in the Northeast.

Coming from the Canadian Prairies I can relate to a flatlanders awe at seeing real mountains and impressive hills. The Pacific Northwest on both sides of the border is a rider's paradise. Going up to Alaska and the Yukon will just plan cause minor brain damage with it's beauty. Road through Tenn and North Carolina on a rented bike, absolutely beautiful scenery and great roads. Want a different Reality, go to NewFoundLand. It's like being on a different planet with roads and moose.

I bought the same jack when I had my GZ and, like you, discovered the exhaust pipe runs under the frame. I kept the jack because I knew what my next bike was going to be and it works great with my V-Star 650 Classic.

Long Island, NY, where I hail from, is one long flat island. I never saw mountains until I went upstate in my late 20's. I'm looking forward to riding the Tail of the Dragon (http://www.tailofthedragon.com/) this summer with it's 318 curves in 11 miles. It's located on the border of NC and TN and is in the mountains (as I understand).
Be sure to check out the vids from Youtube (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tail+of+the+dragon&aq=0).

I rode the Dragon in 2007 with some riders from Stromtroopers.Com. Had a rented KLR 650 which kept me honest on the stock dual purpose tires. You will enjoy the ride but don't be in a hurry or it may bite you.

I spent 57 years on Long Island and moved to Longs, SC 2 1/2 years ago. Love it down here but it gets so darn hot in the summer but you can ride all 12 months. I do think the island is a wonderful place to grow up and live. It just got too d*mn expensive.
