I had the rear wheel off the other day to change the tire and noticed that there was quite a bit of play between the rubber sprocket damper and the cogs in the rear wheel hub. Consequently the sprocket turns back and forth about 1/4" before it engages the wheel. I looked in the service manual to see how much play there should be, but couldn't find any specs. Does anyone know if there should be any play and if so how much? The bike rides fine and I don't notice any jerking or lashing in the driveline. Just thought I should check it out.

Welcome to the forum.A little bit of play normal. If you don't notice any jerking or back lash it is fine.If you want to replace it for your piece of mind,it is pretty cheap.

You will not notice any thing while riding.

The most noticeable is when parked. I had a lot of slack in mine, but no problems.

I replaced mine every time I replaced my rear tire. (It's cheap!) It makes for a smoother off the line start.

Thanks for the quick responses. As long as I am not noticing any driveability problems, I think I will just continue to monitor it.

As long as the the rubber cushions fit snuggly they are good.
