That is sad, when I lived in college station we had a lot of fatalities.

Reports of riders dying sometimes make me wonder why I still ride. As we age our lives are much more of a concern and it amazes me that there are any older riders out on the streets.

I am not going to live forever.

This is why I like riding more now than when I was younger.

Four bypasses, two stents and a hand full of pills each day, I damn sure am
not afraid of dying on a motorcycle.
It's not the dying part, it's the surviving part but being all bent and twisted in pain for the remaining years.

I agree. That's why I took up riding. lol The only thing that I fear is surviving and being paraplegic. THAT would suck.

It seems like every other weekend there is a report of one, two or more MC fatalities on Santiago Canyon (for those keeping track, it was two this weekend - rider crossed the divider - took out another rider - then was clipped himself by a third.) Santiago is our weekend milk run: 12 miles of traffic light free sweepers - optionally terminating at Cooks Corner - a firmly established biker bar/hangout.

When I first started riding I thought it was noteworthy. After the twenty or thirtieth story of a "45/27/54 year old male rider riding his Harley/Suzuki/Honda was struck/lost control on Saturday/Sunday/ Monday afternoon while out riding with his brother/Dad/girlfriend, the cause of the accident is under investigation by the police/Sheriff's Dept/CHP" I decided that it's probably best to just stop reading the news...

It seems no one is ever going to be free of potential mishap no matter how safe they ride or where they ride. The Grim Reaper trolls all the roads for victims.

Some places like that seem to be "idiot magnets".
I'll probably never ride the Dragon either for that same reason.

C'mon Easy, EVERYONE should ride the Dragon's tail once. Take the Hell Bender 32 and the Cherohalla Skyway while you're there too!

It's exhilarating riding at it's very best. Just don't over shoot your abilities, enjoy the view, and all will be fine.

I know what you mean but I don't like crowds; especially crowds of squids.

There are LOTS of similar places elsewhere in the Smokies. One is on US 41 near Monteagle.
Very similar to the Dragon only about 1/3 as long........and virtually deserted. No cars, no wild bike riders; all you have to look out for is deer and falling rocks !!

I would love to ride the Cherohalla if I ever get another chance to go so far southeast. Having ridden the Dragon in 2007 I can say "Been there, Done that." Would I do it again..........no, there are just too many other more sane roads with less rocket pilots. But I did get the T-shirt and cap.
