I've been wondering, what kind of tape did this person use to wrap their muffler?

I've been wanting to cover up the wear on my pipes since I purchased the bike, but I have heard that this can overheat the motor.. Is this true?

Thanks in advance.

Your thinking might be correct about the heating issue. I am sure the exhaust pipes are meant to dissipate a certain amount of heat and wrapping them could be a bad move. The GZ is air cooled so the pipes might be part of the cooling package. Pure conjecture on my part but I wouldn't be doing it. On a cage engine the headers will dissipate so much heat that the engine will not warm up properly in a colder climate. Regular iron manifolds on a V-8 engine hold a lot of heat and are also quieter. If you have a high performance engine the headers are a benefit but not for a daily driver in my opinion and experience.

It is called Header Wrap and can be bought at most automotive speed shops, although it is expensive.I like W.W would be a little leary of over heating a small engine.

All bikes with some miles on them will have that discoloration. I have it a bit on mine. Do you think the white tape will look better? Do you think it will continue to look better as it gets dirty?

That first picture is not a muffler; it is a set of headers off a race car.
Part of the exhaust "tuning" of a race car is keeping the headers uniformly HOT.
It looks like your pipes are starting to rust. Wrapping them, which will make the entire pipe and muffler hotter, will cause the rust to accelerate. It's not a good idea just for that reason alone.
It might also raise the head temp. just a bit but that probably wouldn't hurt unless you push it real hard. Probably not worth the risk.
A light rub of 000 or 0000 steel wool might help the appearance but once rust starts right there, a new set of pipes is about the only real solution. The good news is that the rust looks light enough at this point that they will likely last a LONG time if you just don't mess with them......unless it's stored outside all the time.

It was thinking I could paint them with some sort of flameproof paint.. Any tips?

Yeah I know it was just the first thing that came up in google images when i searched for muffler wrap.. It had more to do with the tape than the pipes haha

Just clean them up with some 000 steel wool.I have used different kinds of hi-heat paint on different projects and have found that hi-heat barbecue paint is far superior, adheres better & lasts longer.
