Hello all!

The name's Jared and the game's fixing up the GZ I bought yesterday. It had been sitting in a garage for a year and a half not getting any attention, but no fear! I have rescued it and intend on restoring it. It should be a fun little project. Then after fixing it maybe I'll be riding it. :neener:

Welcome and good luck. If it ran a year and a half ago, it might surprise you with the (low) level of attention it needs. Read the threads on carbs. That's the area you'll likely have to focus. You might have to drain the tank too.

Check your tires for wear, cracks, tread and replace if more than four years old. Have fun!

For sure. I am really surprised at how much work it does need. The thing only has 4000 miles on it, but it looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet.

I'll have to drain the tank, clean the carbs, replace tires/tubes, replace rusted old chain, replace burnt out right turn signal lamp, add parts where they are missing (bar end, right side plastic, etc), new brake pads, probably replace the spark plug. I typically like to drain and replace fluids as well when I get a new bike so I know for sure what I'm working with. I also just replaced the battery. Long way to go lol.

Unless the carbs are so bad it won't start....and/or you are an experienced mechanic.....I'd drain the float bowl too and then let some of that "magic" carb cleaner mixed with the gas have a go at the cleaning before you tear the carb apart. In a very small percentage of cases, that makes matters worse instead of better.
