Did a 2day 400 miler back to Joshua Tree. 62, 74 and 243 are all world class motorcycle roads and they're all less than two hours from my garage. 62 is desert sweepers, 74 has some of the most awesome snakey turns and 243 is just delicious from start to finish. Combined some riding with hiking, camping and photography - here's a few of the photo's. Oh yeah... it was effing HOT!!!

Man. I need to head out west again someday. The furthest I have been is Utah. The are some great roads to ride there. but it looks California is the place to be.

Oh my that does look hot in places. Actually every place. I see you were keepng hydrated and wearing a shady hat. Good pics of places best left to my A/C Ranger. I don't do well in really extreme temps. Hmm. Winter is coming, any chance of lower temps ?

Very nice photos, Mr. Alan.
I also remember that temperature of Joshua Tree NP at the summer time... ha ha ha
Thanks for the sharing.
PS: After some preparation, I have a plan to go there for Dirt Trail Riding at the weekend, yes this time with some camping. Found some nice easy dirt trail around there.

Desert is good for losing weight. I'd been on a bit of a diet this year and was already down 30 pounds (to 155). Treated myself to a Big and Tasty with Fries and a gigantic coffee and chocolate shake at McD's on Friday for lunch, had a steak, baked potato and a couple ears of corn for dinner. Saturday I had lunch at Foster's Freeze with 3 swimming pool size Dr. Peppers, and later, sushi at Mile High Cafe in idyllwild. Came home, downed a 32 ounce ice tea, snacked on some bacon, and chocolate - weighed myself: 151. WTF?
Re the heat: Rangers thought it was 104 (but I think it was actually 114) - when i got home Saturday, it was 107 in Anaheim Hills. Really too hot to ride at sea level, but it was okay in the mountains.

Hey, I took my photos from my Joshua Tree trip last year and wrote up a sort of travelogue narrative. Put it up on my Biking/Music/Me, Me, MEEE site:

Appreciate any feedback, good bad or indifferent. I'm experimenting with maybe doing this full time next year.

Busy you really should get out more often and relax. Don't let those bikes go to waste from lack of riding.
