So some jerk tried to steal my motorcycle. Looks like I will have to get a new ignition switch. Any tips? What kind of tool does it use to unmount? Doesn't seem that difficult. I drive a 2007 can I use another ignition switchh from an older bike or no? The new ones like 116 for it.

Here are some questions.

So I dont have to buy new gas cap , side panel can I have those keyyed to my new key?

How hard is it to do this myself, looked at the manual doesn't seem to difficult. Anyway any help as well as suggestiions on where to buy a cheap ignition swithc would be great.

Yes. Take old and new key to locksmith with the bike and it's new switch.

As for the ignition switch, be sure to get one from a GZ. There are specific parts inside (resistor and diode ??) that the ignition box "looks for" to run (anti-hotwire feature). One from a different model or a "universal" one likely will not work.

Perhaps a locksmith can get the knife blade out so you won't have to change ignition?

If I remember correctly (and maybe not), I don't think you can remove that ignition switch without some sort of special tool only from Suzuki. That is supposed to prevent theft and you may have to go to a dealer to have it replaced.

Its a star torx, so I can buy it. The question I am having now is whether I can use a 1999 2001 ignition for a suzuki GZ250 will work in my 2007. I asked they said they used the same ignition switch from 1999 to 2009. So I am kind of unsure on that one. difference is about 70 dollars looks no different etc. Thing is they are a EMGO switch.

All G.Z. from 99 to 09 have same switch, part #37100-33E20.

Thanks man wanted some confirmation was pretty sure they did. Now I just need to find the Snap On Torx bit to fit. It's one of the tamper proof. So If I find that I am good to go.

Was worried this was gonna be a couple hundred to fix but now its not so I am good to go.

I'm with dentheman, take the bike to a good locksmith and see if he can fix it, those guys are usually pretty good.

Locksmiths are pretty expensive around here and Ill still have to take the ignition off, Ill see my choices but that kind of work is usually 35 to 50 an hour at a actual locksmith not pop a lock. may just be cheaper to buy the ignition.
