I probably won't do it, but there's a possibility I might take a solo trip to Mid California and give camping one more try. I'm pretty sure I am too old for this, but I can always bail and hit a hotel if I change my mind. I'm interested in consolidating my riding/camping gear for double duty. For example, footwear suitable for both riding and hiking. Currently I favor Merrill lightweight hikers and I have Alpinestar Ridge boots. The Merrills don't come up above the ankle and the Alpinestars are heavy and hot. Also shirts - I have two really nice long sleeve, durable, washable, hiking shirts from REI, but they have collars, and collars flap. And pants. I have nice touring pants but armored and too heavy for walking, especially in the heat.
I tend to favor utility and durability over price, but since this is not something I'll probably do more than once or twice I'm gonna try and keep costs out of crazyland.

Not sure about that either. In any case, I missed it. I have an REI not too far from me that I usually go to when my daughter wants camping/outdoor stuff. Thanks for the tip.

As far as boots go, I'm not sure if they have "Big 5 Sports" sporting goods stores out there in Cali or not, but here in Phoenix, I got a GREAT pair of boots that I use for riding, and they were only $25 on sale! (normally $50, which would still have been a good buy in my opinion). The brand is called Response Gear, and I think the actual model I got was the 'Patrolman'. They are basically like lightweight patrol boots - they are extremely comfortable, have a steel toe, lightweight, and allow for some flowthrough of air. I love them, and plan on picking up another pair or 2 just to have for backup!
Good luck, have fun, and ride safe :2tup:

We do have the Big 5 and one is relatively close to me. In fact, I bought some tennis court shoes there earlier this year. I will check them out.
