I got my bike used (2002) a few weeks ago and the muffler is kind of loud. The salesman said the previous owner must have taken the baffles out of it. I was thinking of getting a new muffler and was looking on JC Whitney's site and found that they sell baffles. I don't know much about mufflers so I was wondering if y'all could help me. Is it possible just to put the baffles back in? Are these the baffles I need - http://www.jcwhitney.com/internal-baffles/p2006266.jcwx?

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

In general, no.
But you have to get it apart first and see what is left and what is missing.
Since the OEM setup is all welded together, just getting it apart would probably damage it beyond repair.

If it is still welded to the pipes, then you might as well figure on cutting off the muffler part and replacing that whole piece........or looking for an intact set of pipes and muffler.

P.S. Are there any "extra" holes in the back plate ?? Stock, there is only one big hole in the middle.

I haven't noticed any "extra" holes that would cause the noise. I have only noticed the one big hole in it. I'll take a closer look at it when I'm out there next. Thank you for your help!

Don't have a GZ handy anymore but maybe some one could post a pic of the end of the muffler. That way there is something for him to compare with.

So - I'm just wondering - how did the previous owner get it apart to get the baffles out? :??:

Yeah thats a good question too. I have a couple days off of work so maybe I'll take a look at it and see if there isn't something else going on here.

If you can, look down the center pipe for a missing deflector plate.
