View Full Version : No Riding For A While

I was out Thursday morning and had a spill. I got some pretty significant abrasions on my right knee and the heel of my right hand. I also dislocated my left ring finger - it swelled so much I had to get my wedding band cut off.

The ironic (and embarrasing [and fortunate]) part is that I wasn't riding - I was running. I caught my foot on some uneven pavement and down I went.

So, no motorcycle riding for me until I get the splint off my finger and am able to operate the clutch. Sucks.

That's a shame Bill, I hope you have a speedy recovery. I know wedding rings are very senimental items so that's a bummer too. Get well soon.

i feel sorry but surprised that a fall during running can cause so much damage. were you running very fast or down hill?

a Jewelry shop can repair the ring while you are healing. Sounds like ATGATT is not just for motorcycles.

The ring can be repaired, but it's going to have to get sized up. As it happens, I dislocated the same finger, same joint, almost 30 years ago when I was in college. We were playing a game of "touch" football and I got my hand caught between two opposing linemen. After it healed, my knuckle was a size larger. I expect the same to happen again this time.

I think I might start jogging with leathers and a full-face helmet. :)

WALKING at a brisk pace is almost as good cardio-wise......and is easier on the leg joints. :)

It was kind of an awkward fall - I was holding my phone so I didn't have both hands to break my fall. Plus I slid forward instead of going straight down, hence the major raspberries. My left hand was closed when it hit, contributing to the dislocation.

Holy smokes! I'm going to have to start scheduling injuries on a regular basis. :)

Thanks to all for the well wishes. The finger still hurts like a son-of-a-gun. I have an appointment with the orthopedist tomorrow - hopefully there's no serious damage and I'll just have to to splint it for a while.

Hey Bill.....I wish you a speedy recovery. Glad that the "spill" didn't happen while you were on the saddle. It could have been much worse! Hope you get back on that GZ pretty soon! All the Best!

I quit running when I was 28. At 46 I just Mosey! If they ever have it as an Olympic event, I think I could place well in the 50 Meter Mosey!

If memory serves me correctly it would have been at the Slow Motion Olympics..................or I was just dreaming after mixing my meds again.

Sheesh, off topic or what ?? Here we have a wounded runner and we are all about ourselves. Oh well, we can at least try to be entertaining.

That's just too good of an opening to pass up. :2tup: So who can come up with the best answer? I'm going to go with: I took it last night. :poke2:

Hey BB, we're the same age.

I really didn't do much running until I turned 40 and decided to do some triathlons. I guess I was saving my knees for later in life. I don't do triathlons any more - the training was too time consuming - but I still try to run and swim on a more or less consistent basis.

Speaking of slow - when I finished my first triathlon, half the participants had already packed up their stuff and left!

Wow Bill, Triathlons, pretty impressive. I watched one from a balcony in Florida once. I do swim laps, I could do that part of a tri if they allowed tag teams.

I only did sprint distance tri's: 600 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run. BTW - some races will let you enter a relay team.
