Wife bought her first bike ever about an hour ago - 2000 GZ250, red, windshield, saddle bags, cover, 1700 miles for $1,600. She had trouble in the BRC (flunked out) but I told her this bike would be like night and day better than the one she had in the class. So she's going up for her learner's permit tomorrow and we'll start up with the PLP. I have a Hyosung GV650 (my first bike ever) but just this week actually got my license so we'll be learning together.

She started on a Rebel but that seemed too high and heavy for her (she's 5-1). They moved her to a Kawi Eliminator. I had to convince her tonight that the GZ was no higher and only slightly heavier than the Kawi. After sitting on it, she found that this actually fits her better. I'm sure she'll find that the controls are much better now. The bikes we used were all pretty beat up. I had a nighthawk and the friction zone was the last 1/2 inch of the clutch and the throttle twisted 30 degrees before doing anything. I passed but it wasn't pretty. She was pretty stressed out during the class which played into it a lot.
Anyway - we are now both owners. Time to get her new bike out to the school parking lot.

Shift lever and rear brake should be adjusted to were they are comfortable for her.

Hello and welcome. I had a 2006 Kawasaki Eliminator myself for a few months. Got our GZ 250 about 1-2 months ago, and my wife and I love it. I have to get to writing up my review of mine, but she will notice a NICE difference between the 125 Eliminator and the GZ 250. I sit more comfortable on the GZ as it is more natural sitting position to me. The shifter is different on the GZ and netural will be a little tricky to find. (at least it was for me). The Kawa netural was very easy to find. I am 5' 10" tall weight about 173. The GZ has quicker get up and go then the Kawa. Tha Kawa was a nice beginer bike (I took the Abate riders test with it). I practiced a lot with mine before taking the test. If you have any questions just ask. There are a lot of great people here eager to help. Happy riding. GZ Brian
