bought this chain for the GZ X ring

ran into problems when i opened and realized it was a rivet and not clip for the final securing

heres how its done but man.. those tools are not exclusive to me so.. im wondering what the average guy could use to achieve the same effect

I took the easy way out. Put the old chain on new sprockets, grabbed new chain and rode to bike shop and had the new chain installed.

You could very possibly go rent enough stuff to do it with from auto zone or somewhere like that, don't know for a fact that they would have the stuff to do it with but it would be worth a try.

Chain breakers and pin buckers are fairly cheap (like $30) in kits, but for as little action as they get, I don't like having them around. You can ask around on a local motorcycle msg board and usually the more maintenance-savvy members are more than willing to lend and even help out with their tools. If not, even other, more global boards have members that will go out of their way for others.

At that point, I think I would have visited a local dealer with chain in hand to get a clip type master link. A properly installed clip should be better than a questionably installed stake. :)
