Thats exactly what a professional photographer (Artist) does takes tons of photo's and gets one great shot. Your lucky your not using film, you'd be in the poor house! You have inborn talent only a given few have.

Don't understand why my pictures came up as URLs, & not the actual pictures! Problem is, I'm just a learner. But they do work if you can be bothered to double click each one in turn
When I used "upload many images", after it finished uploading, it gave me 4 options.
Forum BBCode (1)
Forum BBCode (2)
HTML
Direct link to image
Which one should I have sent to the "reply" box? (I think I used the second option- just at random - then it wouldn't let me delete the post as somebody had "replied")
Also, when I was uploading, it gave me the choice of what size to resize them to. I chose "for websites & e-mails". Was this correct?
Note :- I need all the help I can get. Computers still confuse me!

If you are using imageshack ... just link from there using their provided links for forum BB code. You dont have to resize as the links for BBCode will just thumbnail link to the full pic.

u must really like those macro lenses, mine are cheep so its really hard to keep focus you move a millimeter and you lost the correct focus, that makes macro shots a big pain in the butt. i guess thats what you get when you pay like 13 dolor's of a set of add on macro lenses. the real deal macro lenz is a bit pricey.

the real deal macro lenz is a bit pricey.
I've got a Samsung SL30 camera. It cost the equivalent of roughly $100. I just press a button, & it swaps automatically to macro. Press again & it swaps to set the focus for anything over 80cm (31½ inches) In both modes you just press the shutter button halfway, & it automatically focuses. Best thing when you're using macro, is to use a mini tripod whenever possible. :2tup:

Far out and a small world it is. I was in Tellico Plains in 2007. That shop was just in the process of getting ready to open up for business. I was there for the July 4th weekend with other Strom riders. I and a few others stayed at Hunt's Lodge which is motorcycle friendly. A/C equiped cabins and a very large campground for the tougher younger visitors. Rented a KLR 650 and rode the Dragon.
Yeah, Mike is a good guy, his wife has a Ice Cream shop across the street.

They all have a macro setting .... they work ok, but really don't suck the image in as close. Thats why i have this 10x add on lens. The biggest problem i have is diffusion on edges of things (white halo). That's because its a cheap macro lens. ONE DAY i'll get a better camera with len's that are made specifically for that camera.
Danny, i have the same problem with macro, trust me. I stand there, zoom in to the desired magnification and literally stand there holding as still as possible waiting till i sway the camera to focus and snap. I usually take 3-6 pictures per subject until i hit the right focus. VERY hard to tell most of the time on the little digital screen if it is truly in focus or not till i have it on the computer screen. I took 250 pictures yesterday, saved 88 of them .. to give you an idea.

i have a nice nikon camera the kit usually cost about 1300.00 but i got it on sale for 700.00 you halve to buy a new lens for every type of shooting.
those little point and shoot cameras are really nice and some of them have a good macro setting but you cant get the super upclose detailed shots like you can with a digitarl slr camera with the correct lens hooked on to it.
i also have a small canon point and shoot camera that cost me around 300 dolors about 4 years ago. only thing i use that for is taking video or when i go some place i want pictures and cant lug a full size camera around. i cant get shots like this on a little point and shoot, only problem a good macro lens cost you hundreds of dollars so i make due with my cheep add on hard to focus macro lens.

i usually take 2 or 3 hundred pictures when i go shooting and there are usually only 10 or 20 of them that actually seem to stand out. when i flip threw the pictures and one makes me say oooohhhhhhhh i save that one, just seems that only a few of the photos i take actually jump out and say pick me, me me me.. i only keep the shots i think are awesome and disguard the rest. or if im taking photos of some one i let them pick witch ones they like but i would have trashed a lot of the ones they liked.. im picky haha

I know it's not Photo, but very short new camcorder test clip;
Thanks
wait a second if you know its not a picture why did you post it in the picture thread
:poke2: looks like really good quality video from what i could tell. those things expensive??
Ha, ha, ha...
Mr. Danny.
No, its price is cheaper than my current still camera.
However, I may have to skip my lunches and favorite dinner for a time.... just kidding.
It's Sanyo Xacti CA9.
1. Water Proof which I was looking for.
2. Full manual control >> I like this function as sometimes fine tunning is needed for shooting.
3. Format: max HD 720, 30fps >> good for my old computer for viewing and editing. (and SD 640x480)
if goest up to 1080 HD >> my computer will cry... ha ha ha , so I don't have to upgrade my computer.
4. 9 m. pixel Still Photo function
5. only optical 5X zoom, but good enough for the my purpose. (digital 20x zoom, not be needed)
6. Digital Image Stabilization function
7. Output formate is MP4 >> can upload directly to YouTube
And this MP4 can be used at Free moive editor >> Microsoft Movie Maker (Live.com >> download Live Application >> included)
8. etc..etc...
But image sensor is CMOS; which has some bad reputation on high speed and vibration.
So, I may have to mount at Helmet where vibration is minimal...
Next time, let me take photo out of this new camera.. i hope it goes well.
Thanks

i should get something like that, I dont take a lot of video tho.
maybe you can make some kind of shock absorbing thing to set the camera on when you mount it to the bike that will reduce the vibration.
I missed this while they were building.

Thanks, Danny. Sorry for the slow response. No, it's not a panoramic thing. That's just a narrow crop of a single picture of Upper Yosemite Falls in Yosemite Valley here in CA. Believe it or not, the little white cone at the bottom of the falls is around 80-100 feet high.

that must be one monster water fall.
The upper fall in the picture is 1430', lower fall is 320'. There's a cascade between the two falls that drops 650'. Together they all add up to some 2400', making Yosemite Falls the highest in North America.

Nothing wrong with the D60. If it had been out when I bought the D300, I might have gone for it instead. They only had the D40 then. The D60 will certainly fit in a saddlebag a lot easier than the D300. Unless you're making huge prints, I doubt any real human could tell the difference in picture quality. Does the D60 shoot video? I know some of the newer ones do. D300 does not.

Thank you WW!
I've wanted to drive across the country since I was a teenager. Last Spring (2008), at age 61, I finally hauled off and did it. The terrain didn't change all that much till I hit Nebraska. Then, the spaces in Wyoming, Utah, and Nevada are mind boggling to an Easterner. I spent 2 days photographing Point Lobos, (just South of Carmel, CA) in the footsteps of my main mentor, Edward Weston.
I'll post some other photos from time to time. It's my other main passion. I've been doing it for over 40 years, 10 years professionally, which I refer to as the "Starving Artist" years of my late 20's and early 30's.

A trip across the country is good for the Soul. I find driving to be a better option if time and money are in doubt. Riding is far better but I tend to take longer due to more breaks and more days of just to nap and walk around a bunch. My last long trip was to Tenn and N.C. in 2007. Before that it was right across Canada to Newfoundland and it's furthest Eastern point of North America. Also been to Roswell N.M. in 2000. Alaska and the Yukon in 1986. Northern Cali 2 times. Had to do Lumbard Street in S.F. before they closed it.
Weird but neat stuff like:
Furthest point East in Canada and N.A. continent.
Furthest point South in Canada, Peele Island on Lake Erie.
Roswell, why not ?
Mount Rushmore of course.
Geographical center of N.A.
Middle point of Canada East/West is 14 kms East of Winnipeg Manitoba.
St Paul Alberta, has a UFO landing pad and still waiting after 35 or 40 years.
Top of the World Highway joining Alaska and the Yukon..................Do not look down if you have a fear of heights.
North Pole Alaska where all the mail goes for Santa. Zip HOHOHO.
And of course Squamish, my home since 2005. Outdoors Capital of Canada.

Indeed! It sounds like you've done more of this than I have, and are more destination oriented. I just take off and go in some direction. I did ride a BMW K75SA from here in NH to New Orleans in 2004. That's the longest bike trip I've done, or probably will do, 3500 miles total. My travel ambitions have been limited by family up to now.
I've been retired for a couple of years, and the wife just retired last month, and the youngest daughter just turned 21. So things are going to change. I'm going to do a lot more and longer road trips from now on. The bike is getting to be a less attractive option for the longer jaunts, both for the reasons you pointed out, and also because I want to have with me 2 DSLR bodies, battery chargers, 4 lenses, a big, heavy tripod, and my laptop with Photoshop on it. Not possible on the bike!
Maybe our paths will cross someday out there in the wide open spaces.

Freedom at last eh ? I can still remember seeing a slight glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel. Then it went out for about 5 years but came back stronger than ever and it has been sunshine ever since. Retired April Fools Day 2005. Moved to Squamish 3 weeks later and went in search of a bike dealer. Spent a lot of time just getting lost while searching but it was worth it. Rode the Vstrom home on a cold wet afternoon in July.

Thanks guys! There's a lot of time, planning, waiting, and work in that image. I knew about Point Lobos for over 30 years before I had a chance to see it for myself. My photographic hero, Edward Weston, did a large body of work there from the 1930's to the 1950's. I knew of the power of the place from his work, but never expected to see it for myself. Up until about 10 years ago I didn't have the means for that kind of travel.
I got there for the first time in 2001, with a 2.7mp camera and a 3.2mp one also. I first took an image of this scene at that time, but the results were disappointing. Digital imaging just wasn't there yet.
The image was taken in the Allen Memorial Grove of Monterey Cypress, one of only two naturally occurring stands of these trees left in the world. The park management has limited access to the grove to a very narrow path around its periphery. At the point that this image was made, it is possible to get a little room to work, as there is a widening of the path bordered by some large rocks overlooking the sea. There is really only one view of this possible, with minor wiggle room.
On my third visit to PL in 2008 I had my D300 and a sturdy tripod. I had had this image in my mind for 7 years at that point, and knew just what I wanted. With better equipment, and some help from Photoshop, I am satisfied.
Point Lobos has been called "The Greatest Meeting of Land and Water in the World", and I believe it. Apart from the cypress grove, there are amazing rock formations, and endless vistas of eroded patterns. I spent 2 days there in '08, and left only because I was burned out. One could photograph there for a lifetime, and quite a few lucky souls have been able to do just that. It's about a mile and a half South of Carmel, if you ever get a chance to go there.
Dupo, it's good to see that you're still around. You have been in my thoughts, and I hope all is as well as it can be with you.

Danny,
I have a D80 as well as the D300. Reading the specs on the D60, I have to believe it can produce results that are at least as good as the D80, and the D60 is newer technology also. Any difference you are seeing is probably a result of post capture work in Photoshop, which is fairly extensive in this image.

You should seen this area 3 or 4 years ago. The large ferry in the background(or a sister ship)lost power and steerage while coming in to dock. It came to a halt after destroyng nearly every small personal craft in the dock area. Amazingly no one was hurt or killed. There was a lot of initial concern because so many small craft could not be accounted for and could have been under the ferry or out to sea.

The shutter speed was a pain ... im still learning how to work with that. Trying to get the blur was letting in too much light during the afternoon washing out the pics. I had to wait until very late dusk to take those pictures so the light let in by the 1/2 second shutter would balance correctly.

Better to have loved and lost than live the rest of your life with a psycho.
Been there, done that, we all can sympathize with you greatly. But as bad as you think it is, you'll soon realize that you're much better off and then it gets better pretty fast, after you and your kids get over the initial shock and you can work on getting your shit together. Just stay around and keep in touch so we know how you're doing and that you're OK. And get out 2 days a week by yourself if you can.

well i guess you would want to set your aperture pretty high so you can get a longer shot in plain day light. i have not tried a shot like that in the day time yet. but i hear that is the key to getting long exposure shots during the day.

Nice video, nice road, nice ride, nice weather. It's amazing how you can ride for 8 min., 8 miles, and only see 1 car, 1 truck, 1 motorcycle, and 1 house. Where does that road go, where does it connect to? Nobody lives out there I guess, probably the best part of the ride, not seeing anyone else so you can enjoy it all by yourself, not like being in the L.A. traffic and having to split lanes and smell all the exhausts on your face.
The video is nice and smooth, no real vibration, can hear the engine sounds, but any way to cut down more on the wind noise with something covering the mike a little more?

Hi, Mr. MM.
O.K. let me put bigger cotton over the speaker next time..
Last year, with GZ250, I rode same place, there is a ride-report on this forum ??
At that time, if I remember correctly, there were no single vehicle during the whole riding.
I even put my tripod at the center of road about 30 min....
Strangely, this road is very quite..
This road is actually(?) part of Angeles Crest Highway, even though it has it's own name (for my opinion)

It was a beautiful day for a ride but we left the course at 6 PM and the temps were dropping all the way home so we got a little chilled.
