It still being hot and fire-y and all out here, Moedad and I passed on Angeles National Forest (still on fire, and also hot) and just did the usual circuit: Santiago Canyon to Live Oak Canyon(?), down to Dana Point and then back up CA1 (PCH). It's actually a decent little ride, about 90 miles for me and Dana Point is a nice stopping point. I was able to keep up in the curves a lot better than last time so either I'm getting better or Moedad is going slower. Wore earplugs for the first half, took em out for the return. Shoulda left em in, but they were bothering me.

(Full disclosure: The motorcycles are ours. The boats are not.)

Thank you Alan. And we get to put faces to the names too. Looks like a great day for the ride. Nice scenery on the water.

I'm a dork--I should've at least asked if you wanted your picture taken with your bike. And I forget that mega-steep road up from the harbor has that stop sign right at the top. I'd be scared to do it on your bike. I'm glad there wasn't anybody there when I got up there so I could roll through the stop and get the heck out of the way, but when you got there you had to stop anyway. I shudder to think what it would be like if there were one or two cars stopped ahead of us.

There were tons of riders out yesterday enjoying "cooler" weather, lots of people at the beaches, lots of traffic. Coming back up PCH in Laguna we were sitting in traffic and a tiny space opened up next to us and 8 or 10 lane splitters on sport bikes just went pouring through the gap. Labor Day traffic through dowtown Laguna Beach is not a good place to be lane splitting in packs (and not the best place for individual riders either), IMO.

Moedad, I have plenty of pictures of me on my bike - and I look quite dorky in all of them.
I suppose I mighta had trouble on that hill but the Strat has super awesome brakes and I wasn't worried. I did wonder where you were going when you went left though!

Re the lane splitters - I've been known to do it myself. I know it's not the safest thing to do, but there are times that just seem to call for it. You do have to be careful you don't decide to do it just as someone else is coming up the alley! The Strat gets hot and I typically have a jacket on with at least jeans if not the touring pants. Sometimes I just gotta go. Especially when I am stuck behind either the timid or the stupid. My wife will make you a nice deal on the bike after I make one too many bad decisions.

All in all, sport bikers and traffic aside, I thought we had a decent morning.

Here is an extra dorky picture of me on my bike just so you don't feel bad!

I'd been making wrong turns all day. Didn't see any reason to change.
