View Full Version : HHHEEELLLPPP!!!
Well on the way home from work tonight I hit a sand storm (pre monsoon) and a fliping plastic bag hit my exhaust pipe.
Now I have 2 inches of melted plastic on my chrome. i tried to peel it off but its on there hella good.
Any suggestions on removal withour messing up the chrome??? Thanks, OPA

Yes! Just takes time, I had some..gunk (who knows what it was) on mine when I bought it. I used a cleaner and a razor blade and was very careful got it all off and no scratches! I suggest the cleaner first though..I used a regular Meguiars car cleaner worked great.
Hope this helps

I got melted bag off of mine with a razor as well, but it DOES scratch. I tried 000 steel wool but it wasn't effective. I also used a lot of Goo gone or something like that. The good gone works on small amounts, but if it's burnt black, it's hard to be patient enough with the slow progress of the solvents. The razor blade is very effective but it will leave small scratches.

Heat exhaust up and use oven cleaner on it.

Unfortunately not much of anything will actually dissolve the plastic.....now that I said that, acetone might do the trick. It is a major ingredient in nail polish remover. If you have some paint remover you might try that too.
Some have found a popsicle stick (or similar) works good. When you get most of it off, 0000 steel wool will be good for the last little pieces.
If you get down to the point where you are just going to scrape it off, that will probably work better if it has "cooked" for several rides and becomes more like ash than plastic.
