Hi.

Last year I got my jacket. Time for pants.

I do city riding. Rarely above 45 mph, if ever. Commuting around town, etc. I have a Fieldsheer mesh jacket and FF helmet. Leather perforated gloves. Basic work boots.

Anyone had any experience with anything like this?

Welcome back Jer,

I have a couple of pairs that are similar to, but not exactly like these. (Tourmaster Caliber)

One, I think the price is good (I paid 120ish for mine I think.) Two, I didn't see a zip-in liner (I'm in a much warmer climate, but I keep the liner in one pair of mine most of the time. I guess it depends on the size and what you wear underneath. (I typically wear a pair of compression shorts, but sometimes I also have my soccer stuff on.) In a pinch, mine will go over jeans, if need be.

These, in some ways are fancier than mine. I don't have the racing puck and my armor is not removable I don't think.

I've been very happy with mine.

Great, thanks Alan.

How many miles are you up to now?

I have about 3200 on the GZ and 1500 on the Strat. Had some maintenance issues on the GZ (fixed now) and I've been out of town a lot so that has cut into my riding time a little. I'm hoping to get some more big rides in in a few weeks when my schedule clears up. My commute is only 7 miles, so I don't log much during the week.

You bring up another question I had.

Wearing these over pants. I like that idea too. These arent specifically "overpants" though. If I want that option do I just go a size bigger? Or are they pretty roomy as is?

That is the problem with buying anything (especially motorcycle gear) over the internet, without trying it on you really have no idea whether you need to go a size up, down or what. I have a Motorcycle jacket that is a Medium, Motorcycle gloves too,and they fit me perfectly. I can't wear a medium ANYTHING, everything i own is X-Large, Except for that gear.

Right, there is that Music Man.

Mainly I meant the use of something advertised as "pants" and not "overpants" over jeans.

I figured they are dramatically different items. Perhaps not. Alan is uing pants over pants it seems. So maybe they arent really any different after all?

Thats what I'm asking more or less.

Yeah, sizing is tricky. Around here though All I can find in stores is $250+ Its worth return shipping if they dont fit. I can try on 6 or 7 of them if need be and still be WAYYYY less.

I agree with Music Man. I bought mine after trying them on (over pants, and not over pants.) I am surprised you cannot find Tourmaster Calibers in Des Moines. I'd also be surprised if they were much more than $120.

Hi.

I just sent back some Fieldsheer mesh pants; All Season or Four Season or something like that. I REALLY liked them but I have a "short" problem and may never find any pants to fit me right.

Easy, Lynda had a pair of Olympic pants shortened to fit. The bottom few inches of the legs do not have a zipper to mess with and might be an ideal candidate worth checking out.

Indeed, that is a good part of the problem. Are they "summer" type; mesh or vented ?? Do they have any armor or reinforcement; knees not at the right place is another consideration. Any chance you could scare up a model number or name?

Consider a pair of leather overpants - great protection from wind and cold, relatively easy on and off, and ER - can be cut to length with a scissors. Might be a solution for cold weather riding. I got a nice pair from Leatherup.com for about $75. No armor, but better abrasion protection than jeans or any cloth mesh pants.

Easy, have good and bad news. Can't find a particular model # on the pants but I can describe them a fair bit. Keep in mind these are a women's clothing item but I am sure there is a men's counterpart. Or just search out whichever fits best. Anyway here goes. Scotchgard outer shell Cordura that is breathable. Large front pockets. Inner liner for cooler riding. These are not a mesh pant but should breath fairly well. Padded hips and adjustable knee armor. Lynda's knee armor is at the top position. She likes the fit and the alterations were not difficult for the seamstress. The leg side zipper starts a few inches from the bottom and goes all the way up to the hip. Think i will look at the Olympia site for more info.

Checked out Olympia's site. Ladies Pro Max over pant and Mens Ranger 2 pants seem to be quite similar. Probably best if you can do a test fit if there is a dealer handy. Try them on and go sit on a bike in the showroom.

THANK YOU. I will have a look. :2tup:

EDIT: How about a link? My initial search didn't get me anything really useful.

Got it.
Alas, those appear to be worse than most as they don't even offer a "short" option. My 36" waist comes with a 35 inseam. I don't think I want to gamble with being able to cut off 7-8 inches........and that is almost guaranteed to have the knee pads down about shin guard level.
Thanks for trying.
