Anyone want to recommend some good ones (Comfort, etc)? I currently use a full face, but the warm (Read HOT!!) weather is coming, and I'm thinking of getting an open face or 3/4 helmet for use in the hot weather.

I have a black one like this, I like it, it is very comfortable, right when i got it I ordered a Tinted face shield for it. I don;t wear a full face so I couldn't really make a hot/cold comparision for you, but it doesn't really get too hot in there to me. It also has a very excellent field of vision, I can barely see the actual helmet in my vision.

I wear an "Airoh" brand, "top one" model. It's matt black, & it's paintable,(if you want to). They also do it in shiny black, plus other shiny colours (to match your bike). You can get them with/without a peak, but they're best with, as the visor pushes up under the peak to protect it when it's not down. Been wearing it for the past 4/5 years. Very comfortable. Over here, the equivalent of $130. My wife also wears one, & she's had no problems comfort wise. We both wear glasses, & no problems with that either.

Airoh's are nice helmets, but unfortunately, they aren't available in the States. No idea why. If they were, this Airoh Tyger would be mine in a heartbeat.

Man patrick I love that helmet, so you can't even order one of those here in the States?

You can get some UK shippers to send it to you, but you'll be spending around $50 for shipping alone. That's already half the price of the helmet itself.

Bought this one yesterday, Vega Nitro NT200:

Also includes a clear full face visor to use instead of the "upper visor"

Paid $50 from a dealer going out of business. Love it, it's lightweight, comfortable (I normally have to wear an XXL full face helmet, this one fits better in XL). An open face helmet is a huge difference from a full face. I can hear every noise the bike makes, less wind buffeting, it seems and generally cooler (temperature wise).

less wind buffeting

Have you tried it out at high speed yet? At around 70 mph the wind gets under the peak of my airoh (no windshield on bike) & tries to push my head back. Not a big problem - just warning you to watch out for it the first time you get up to the higher speeds.

Both Lynda and I wear full face helmets. We have ridden in very hot temps and both agree a full face is hot with or without a windshield in front of you. Whenever we consider an open face helmet we just remind ourselves that 27 % of injuries involve the face and jaw. It's all about the amount of overall risk you are willing to take. Please ride safe, but ride.

I have one of each. I use the 3/4 for my non-highway commute, usually on the GZ, never more than 50mph. I still wear the full face for everything else. I actually can see better out of the 3/4, especially checking for lane changes and blind spots. Plus less screwing with the glasses, and, can take my last sip of coffee with the gear on.

Once I get going I always have the face shield down. I've been hit in the face shield with all manner of things, from clumps of mud, to small stones, to large bugs, to tiny birds (or maybe it was a bat.) Lots of crap blowing around out here and lots of crap blowing off trucks.

I use a Nolan N-41 with a removable visor (very similar to the Airoh above) & removable retractable face shield for those colder days.

This model has been superceded by the N-42 with retractable faceshield AND retractable dark sunscreen so it's possible you won't need sunglasses.

Mine has been a super piece. Good fitting with a removable washable liner (very important for no funk riding). They are DOT approved.

It is Italian made (they have small craniums), and they run a bit small (I wear a XXX).

This is my 3rd one and (at least for me) they are undoubtably the lightest most comfy 3/4 I've found. $135 +/-

My last Nolan saved my head in my 2006 accident.

Most times I wear a DOT police Harley 1/2 helmet.

Any advice on how to get my 1 1/2 year old son to take naps? What works for you? :)

Hi, there.
Mine is almost same kind as yours, but different brand HJC (cheap one but good enough for me).
Both DOT and SNELL approved.
Fiberglass >> it's a really light weight.
I choose one less size for the little tight feelings and for the high speed riding.
As I wear glasses, this is almost required option for me.
At the high speed, I mean high speed (90 - 120 mph on my experiences), no problems at all if face-shield is on.
Just little bit more wind noise, that's it.
If I hid behind the wind screen, the noise also removed all.
I like the one I'm having now... :)

To make nap, let the baby exercise; make him/her move around after good baby meals ????
Just thought....

Ok. Here is my experience:
There is two things. One: In summer time the temperature is so high, you need to cool your head against heat-stroke. In an open face helmet your face is cooled by the wind, but your head is in the helmet and insulated from the wind around your face by the helmet lining. Consequently your head stays hot. If you would like to cool your head, you need a helmet with air ventilation. It is better if you can close the air slot. I show this:

http://www.postimage.org/PqSuEo9.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqSuEo9)

http://www.postimage.org/PqSuGTi.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqSuGTi)

http://www.postimage.org/PqSuLSA.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqSuLSA)

http://www.postimage.org/PqSuQRS.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqSuQRS)

http://www.postimage.org/PqSuVR9.jpg (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqSuVR9)

You can see on the pictures that this helmet is an open face but has an air ventilation system in it. There is a closeable air slot at top of the helmet. You can see the two positions of the access arm. The air goes into the helmet in front side and goes out the back side. Moreover you can see more intakes above the driver's forehead. These give more fresh air for your head. In this way your head is cooled. If the temperature goes down you can close the slots and no airflow, no cooling.
Secondly: In summer time you will sweat, your head will be wet. This moisture will enter into the helmet lining. After a couple of riding, the lining will be dirty and smelly. You have to clean. If the lining is removeable you can clean easily, but if not the ceaning is more difficult.

In my opinion these things are very important that you have to consider before you buy an open face helmet.

Hi all.
I've just bought a "Premier Touring 3" helmet, and it's really great! The best compromise money-quality!!!

Just wear some safety ( or other ) glasses when riding in an open face helment. A hit in the eye by a bug would hurt like crazy and probably blind you and put you in the ditch.

Yesterday I went to a dealership and test rode a 2009 Vulcan 500 (sweet!) so I wore one of the helmets the dealer had for that purpose. I tried a full face helmet, but couldn't put it on over my eyeglasses, and if I took the glasses off I couldn't put them on when wearing the helmet. So I tried an open face helmet and put my glasses on easily. Another lesson learned.

Hot or super hot I have a full face helmet on. I also wear glasses with either full face or flip face. I honestly think if it is too hot that you need to be half undressed to ride then it is too hot to ride. Yeah, I'm a ATGATT kind of guy. If it is too hot to gear up there is an A/C Ranger waiting for me.

The solution is a modular helmet. You move the chin bar up to the open position and put the helmet on with or without your glasses on. If without then once you have the helmet on you put your glasses back on. You then pull the chin bar down until it locks making it a full face helmet. It's also great on a hot day to stop, open the helmet and get a drink of water. I have both the modular and a 3/4 helmet. Mid summer you have to use the 3/4 helmets here.

Both of mine are Vegas and both are on closeout sale at Jafrum.com. Sorry for the big pics but they're from the Jafrum site.
