Hey Digger,
Nice to have another Englishman on the forum, although I've been living in Tenerife for the last 6 years. Whereabouts are you? I'm an Englishman by birth, & a Yorkshireman by the grace of God!
By the way, you'd better tell these other guys on here what the M.O.T. is. I'll bet they don't know. Over here it's called the I.T.V., & you need the first one at 4 yrs, then once every 2 yrs up to 10 yrs old, then every yr. after that.

I used to work all around your area (electrician). Where are you exactly? Just idle curiosity, but I've got my "Driver's Atlas Britain" with me, & just rarin' to go, to look it up.
To you Americans - being a Yorkshireman is something like being a Texan. We refer to Yorkshire as "God's own county"
As for the pound/euro thing, I know exactly what you mean. Our pensions are paid in pounds, & sent to our bank, here, as euros. What with price increases as well as the fall in the exchange rate, & link it to a very small increase in pensions, & in the 6 years we've been here our spending power has dropped by 50% in real terms. Whereas at first we were "comfortable", now we have to be very careful with our budget.
At the moment the rain is beating down like a monsoon - they say it's the worst winter for 35 years - but when I see the conditions in England (with another 10" of snow expected) I still don't regret retiring here for a moment.
Oh, by the way, M.O.T. is "Ministry of Transport" That's the way everyone refers to the annual inspection that all vehicles over 3 years old have to undergo in England.

Yes, I know Pontefract. I used to do some work at a dentist's in the town centre. (can't remember the name,now) One of the worst places in the country for traffic wardens waiting to jump out & slap a ticket on the van!
I was born in Sheffield, but spent most of my adult life at Maltby, near Rotherham. I've always been an electrician, but took the P.S.V. (public service vehicle) test, & when there was no work around, I used to go bus driving until things picked up. If you're wanting another job, they're always wanting bus drivers. The only problem is the shift work. I thought about doing a bit of part time bus or coach driving here, but even though the Spanish accept other EEC countries car & bike licences, they won't accept the vocational licences such as P.S.V. & H.G.V. I'd have to take a test here, & I can't be arsed.

most of the wardens gone now, ponte is getting better, castleford is way better though, to be honest england is going down, pricey an too crowded, bulgaria will be looking good for retirement i think,

any way is the 250 engine the same as any other models?

As far as I know the engine used in the gz250 is not used in any other Suzuki models. I have posted a couple of pics here to show the differences in the 125 and 250 models. The frames look slightly different to me. Besides making sure the engine bolts up the same (doesn't look like they do) you would need at least the 250 exhaust as well. Not sure of the chain and sprocket specs either but the 250 has a 15/41 tooth for 520 chain. That and other possible differences (air box/carb, electrics etc.) make it seem like selling the 125 and picking up a 250 would make more sense.

Yeah, I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you there, softie.
The frames and pretty much everything else seem to be exactly the same. The only difference would be minor changes to the exhaust manifold, but even the muffler looks nearly identical. There might be possible sprocket/chain differences, but it's unlikely that Suzuki would modify much between the two. I doubt it would be very economical to do so, and since these bikes are designed toward the economy market, any changes in production line would simply add cost. It would be more efficient to have one production line for frame and secondary parts and simply diverge at the engine assembly/install. :techy:
I propose this image to alter your perception. I shopped out the engine "compartment" and badging for each of the models. Which is which?

I will, however agree with your assessment that it would make more sense to just sell the 125 and buy a 250 if possible. The labor and cost associated with swapping an engine would negate any benefit quickly.

According to the roadtest of the gz250 at :-
http://www.dropbears.com/m/models/roadt ... rauder.htm (http://www.dropbears.com/m/models/roadtests/marauder.htm)
"The powerplant is donated by the GN250"
This doesn't mean much to me, but it may do, to anyone conversant with different engines.
For some reson, roadtests/marauder has come up as dots. dunno why, but I've edited it now, to give the full bit!

the gn was a cruiser before the marauder, to be honest , judging by the performance, she might as well keep the 125, theres not much in it, and ill look for a 250 to do up for her at my liesure, if a gn 250 engine fits , that means a gn400 engine will fit in the 250 then, if you fancy more speed?

That rumor has been going around for a couple of years now.
We still have no proof.
Without proof, it remains just a rumor. :popcorn:
I am doubtful because if it were true, there are a bunch of folks that would be all over it.
Haha Al, I said the same thing but didn't post it when I first read it. Ha.

If I wasn't so lazy, I would put my latest get rich quick scheme into play: http://www.makeyourGZfaster.com.
"Click here to send $29.99 for plans on how to:
* Increase your displacement
* Boost your HP to 49... and higher!
* Bump your cruise speed to 75 mph and beyond!
* Amplify your pipes!
* Re-jet your carb"
Once their check clears, they'll get the following e-mail:
"Buy a bigger bike!"
