Mr Brilliance here. Didn't bother pulling out the batteries or digging out the charger this winter. So now the I will be in the market for a battery. The GZ battery tested good but the VStrom is too pooped to pop. 5 volts doesn't look too good but will charge it up and see if it holds a charge. All I had to do was plug in the Battery Tender and forget it. Gonna be an expensive lesson me thinks.

Running it down once or twice shouldn't destroy the battery. I've run my GZ down twice by forgetting the Tender, but after a full charging, it's as strong as ever and still holds a strong charge.

It should be fine if it didn't freeze. If it's not a sealed battery be sure to check the fluid level before you charge it so it doesn't get fried.

It probably won't and it probably wouldn't have made much difference anyway.

A fully charged, healthy battery should survive 60-90 days of non-use with no ill effects at all. One that was on the verge of failure, however, is an entirely different story.

Now would be a good time to put a charger on the GZ for a couple of hours......just to be sure for the next 60 days or so.

The GZ battery was only down to 11.5 volts when I removed it and put it on the tender. Fully topped up now. The VStrom battery is a year older and might recover. It is charged up now too so I will just monitor both for voltage drop while they are inside and warm. Got my fingers crossed.
