I just bought a GZ, low miles and decent price helped me make this purchase. Now the wait for spring will be difficult. However, it gives me time to decide on some new options for her like sissy bar, saddle bags etc. :2tup:

Oh man that has to be difficult to have it sitting there and not being able to ride it for a few months. I'd go insane lol.

Like I said in another post, the first priority for extras, for me, was an engine protector. Like I already said, the first time the bike falls over you'll be glad you got it. Another guy said that the Suzuki OEM guard is next to useless. Mine is one that I picked up in our local bike shop in Tenerife, & it's stopped the tank getting messed up when the bike ran forward, off the stand, so if you get one, see if you can find any different types before you commit yourself.

This is a 2006 bike that has only 185 miles on it. It looks like new and I could not pass it by.
I can however look at it's photos.
Yes, it will drive me nuts all winter long. To make matters worse it is being stored on the other side of the state. I can't even go to the garage to visit it. However, this gives me time to clean out my garage and get a special spot ready for it.

Hey, nice looking machine. The black ones are faster, you know!

By the time you get your hands on it, it will be 3 years old......and will probably still have some of the original 3 year old gas in it.

So BEFORE you start it up in the spring, you need to drain the float bowl and the gas tank and add a healthy dose of carb. cleaner to the fresh tank of gas.

An oil change will be in order too, unless it was done this fall.

Yes, I knew the black ones were faster. I also heard that chicks like black bikes best!
I'll keep the preseason prep in mind, great recommendation.

Can't confirm that part.......but I keep hoping (well, maybe dreaming would be more like it!)

Finally! On Sat., 3-14-09, drove over to the west side of the state and picked up my GZ. Got it home and introduced the bike to it's new home (my garage). It didn't voice any objections so I take it the bike is as happy as me. On Sunday I took it out for a spin and we both enjoyed ourselves. :2tup:
Now, this week will be accessories week. That is where I start to put the various items onto the bike that I have been buying all winter long. Grab a chair this should be interesting.

Blackbird,

Good to see a fellow Michigander on the forum; I think there might be one other one who checks in from time to time. I, too, am pretty new to the gz world and having a blast. Got a new windshield and have been out the last three days for long rides, effing endlessly with various set ups. BTW, it's the blue gz's that are the babe magnets, but your black one looks nice, too.

Close but no cigar. Blue is a babe COLOR......as is red. Come to think of it, so is any color BUT black !! :poke2:

Hey everybody! Well I spent the evening putting on my engine guard and front fender guard. It went ok, looks nice. Next up will be the sissy bar, might not be until later this week. I'm looking for saddlebag supports and probably will put them on at the same time I install the sissy bar. I'm going to need a lot of patience for that job.

That last job is pretty easy, but make it easier to reach the bolts inside the fender by raising up the setting on the rear shocks to get more clearance above the tire so you can get your fingers and a wrench in there. When you put the accessories on, take the bolts out and put them back in one at a time to help align everything up, rather than taking them all out at once and then trying to put it all back together.

OK, what's a "front fender guard"? That's a new one on me.

It is wise to do both the back pieces at the same time......because they both use the same bolts. I did mine twice (duh) without realizing the obvious that it would be easier with the back jacked up via the springs or having the back wheel off the ground (double duh). I have small hands and it still was tricky.

I'm guessing chrome fender trim for the leading and/or trailing edge of the fender.

The front fender guard looks like this on Raven(bikes new name), they have been around for awhile. A fun add on item ...
I'm back to eBay looking for bag supports. Putting both items on at the same time makes good sense.
Ciao'

mrlmd1 ... thanks for the advice, my fingers are fat and that is annoying at times. I hope that little project goes well.
Also hi to kmkindred. Didn't mean to ignore you. Ann Arbor is like my 5th favorite city in Michigan. Go Blue!
I saw Easy's windshield and found it to be interesting. I also like the Memphis Shades Roadmaster windshield and wonder if it will fit onto Raven. What do you think Easy? It's similar to yours.

Holy Cadillac Batman!!

First one I have seen.

Looks like you have the same engine guard as I have.
And your bike is the "right" color too.

It should. Almost any universal mount shield will "fit".....if you have enough patience......and a little ingenuity.

Have you considered the one the California guys have? I liked the look and size of that one.

I really like mine but it is BIG and may cut down the top end a bit......if you care about that.

Easy ... yep, its the same one you have. Very solid and I have no problem with my feet getting caught up in it. MC seems to make one of the better ones out there.

I just installed this one, too (Plexistar 2). I think any bigger would be too big for this bike. An added bonus is that it offers some hand protection, too.

Yes, that's the one. And that's my thought too.......although if you are equipping the bike for a girl or a wussy rider like me, then the bigger one might be better !!!
