Hi Folks!
First off, thanks to all who talked about the carb mod, and especially for the step-by-step instructions. Did that mod last week on my 2006 and it made an incredible difference in how this little gal runs!
Now for a quick question - I need a windscreen, and refuse to pay Suzuki $200+ for one. I've seen a couple in JCWhitney that look ok, but not sure of the size needed for the GZ. Anyone have a source for inexpensive windscreens?
Thanks!!

This here is what most GZ owners put on their bikes. And for this price, you cant beat it ......
Spitfire on Ebay for $45 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Slipstreamer-S-06-Spitfire-Windshield-with-7-8-S06C_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35590QQihZ003QQite mZ130065946286QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V)

I bought a windshield from this company. They shipped it without the mounting hardware. It took me several weeks to get the mounting hardware. They wanted me to ship the windshield back to them at my expense that they might reimburse, let them credit my account and then I would need to reorder. It turned out that their distributer was shipping the windshields with out the mounting hardware that came in separate box. If I had not stuck to my guns and demanded that they simply ship me the missing mounting hardware. I got it all straightened out and have the windshield mounted but it took weeks. It was painful. I'm not suggesting not to buy from them but just be aware that it may take some time to get any problems you have fixed. Email communications with them is terrible although they did get to it eventually.
All that said. I would by from them again. Why? Because no one could come their price. If the hardware had come with it like it was supposed to I would have been thrilled with their service and prices.

Great! Thanks!
How would you folks rate the slipstreamer spit fire? Quality? What are its limitations? Am I correct in that it would need to be the 7/8 inch clamp? Lois is thinking of trying one out to get the wind off her chest when she is riding at 50-60 mph. I know it's not expensive but then I still don't like to throw away almost $60.
Cheers!

It is indeed 7/8", and the quality seems good. I put one on last weekend, but the weather has been so bad that I've only been able to go to and from work once, no long rides at all. Seems good, though, and worth the money.

I will let you know. I have one on order and waiting for it to be delivered.
I had one of those on my GZ. Its a good buy for the money. 7/8" is what you want. Clamps on and off very easy. Problem is finding that sweet spot where its doing its job and also in a good looking spot and not too high. For chest off deflection it does great mounted with the bottom rubber of the shield resting on the headlight (also keeps it mounted very sturdy). but for me being 5'9" i got very bad head bobble from the wind whipping over the top. Ended up having to raise it very high to defeat the bobble see example (http://tkfiles.storage.msn.com/x1prBCtpy9yqTrSloMq0eXRAFcuupJgwNGRoqLitKC94q_YXrs Vp4hblFShTYhpW1755TyK0cNeDSCkMLFzBmq9KF5aKjgglnfOl HlnPCLLA57Yvl5qiHxjCw). Worked great, but sat too high and looked kinda weird. If they would sell those in 19" high .. those would be perfect. My head bobble also was while wearing a half helmet, never did try it with the full face, might not have been so bad with that on. They arent super thick, but they dont wobble at high speeds either.
Oh yea, one thing with those...when playing around with the height, dont clamp it down hard or you'll end up with screw marks in the flat black paint of the bars. I adjusted mine up and down so much that the bars looked like i beat them on the edge of a drum. The paint comes off very easy leaving you with aluminum marks all over the place. Once you got the spot where you like it, THEN clamp them down good. Otherwise you'll be taking them off and repainting the flat black.
I went ahead and bought one off of eBay from mawonline. I got the tinted one since that's what she wanted and it was only a couple of dollars more. After shipping and tax (yes, they added Fl tax to it) it came to just over $64 so not bad if it makes her ride a little more comfortable. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll post her opinion.
Thanks for all your responses.
Cheers!

I use a full face and I mounted my windscreen a bit high, also. It sits against the front side of the speedometer, about half-way up. The short rides I've managed since I got it on has convinced me that it had taken care of the head wobble. I don't think it looks too bad, either. All I can say is to repeat what Dupo said - leave it loose and play with it until it's right for you (or her).

I bought a windscreen from http://www.mawonline.com/slipstre.htm a couple of weeks ago. The shipping was a little slow, the order process was in their warehouse for 5 days before shipping.
It finally arrived, I installed it, even me who is not very mechanically inclined, was able to install it in less than 15 minutes. It looks great. I know I have to make some height adjustment but too cold, it is now raining and just north of us they are expecting blizzard conditions. Up to a foot of snow. I hate winter.

I don't think they have a warehouse. The drop ship from someone else. My experience with them is they are slow at everything. However, its tough to beat their price.

I stated what their tracking system had "warehouse processing". It was probably delivered from a 3rd party vendor. They do have good prices.

Dirt,
That is the one I have installed. I need to take newer pictures of my bike. The ones I have dont have the accessories I have put on it since I bought it. The spitfire does fit and works great and is easy to install and adjust.

The Spitfire is an easy shield to mount and seems to be proportioned well for the GZ. The red letters on the shield peel off easily too. Just use your finger nails for a couple minutes.
