View Full Version : Traded my GZ today

I've been thinking about it for a couple of weeks now, and finally found the deal that works for me. They gave me trade of just a few hundred less than what I paid for the bike minus the windshield and the engine guard. I guess the small bikes new or used usually only last about a week on the show room floor. I purchased my GZ in April and was almost to 6,000 miles when I traded.

I traded for a 2008 Yamaha V-Star Custom, black with white ghost flames. I tried taking a picture of it my garage when I got home, but you couldn't see the bike in the picture. I'll try taking some tomorrow. I plan to continue being an active member of the thread, I've made friends with Easy, and I enjoy the crap out reading Sarris, Alans, and Patricks writings. So until next time, see you out there

There was a Suzuki SV650 parked beside my bike when I left campus today... I might just convert if I could ever come up with enough cash next summer. It was a slick looking bike. First one I'd seen in person, too.

As others have proven (with emphasis on Dupo), it's not required to have (or even have owned) a GZ to be a contributing and respected member here.

Edits for quicker posters:

Primal, the SV is a great bike, and will likely be my next "new bike" purchase. Did you see the sport version with the full-fairing or the nekkid one?

Yamaha Star motorcycles are a great ride. I had a Roadstar 1700 Midnight Silverado, and it was a super bike. Did you get the V-Star 650?

Good luck brother, and keep on the forum.

Thanks guys, and it is the V-Star 650, I know I won't get as good mpg as the GZ though. They had to order the windshield for the V-Star and when I got on the highway this am, I quickly remembered why I like having a windshield. The low and mid-range power are incredible even though I'm in the break-in period. It runs very smooth @ 60 mph, and little effort. I liked the uniqueness that I felt on the GZ, but I imagine I'll get used to this bike as well. :)

Rusty,

I really miss my V-Star. I sold mine just a while back. Needed the money as I am living on my savings account right now. I had the classic instead of the Custom. Loved the direct drive.

Hey man, that's great. Now that you have a bigger bike, you can meet me MORE than half way..... ...if we ever get it timed right. I was hoping to get a chance to sit on your revised seat.

I saw the sport version, but I'm a sucker for nekkid bikes. I either want an SV650 or a streetfightered Katana 600 as my next bike.

You know it will cost me more than you in the mpg area O_o

Seriously we do need to meet up before it get's to cold. I've got the numbers, just got to get the time and I'll get in touch.

Katana 600

Horribly unbalanced and heavy. Katanas are hard to move around and have considerable suspension problems while cornering. Have you looked at or been around a CBR at all? Balance and overall design on them are much better than the Katanas and when stripped down (streetfightered?) they all look about the same.

Plus the CBR aftermarket is ripe, compared to the Katana's.

Enjoy the thrill of getting up to speed all over again. I'm not ready for anything bigger yet, but I think about it everytime I bypass the freeway.

So, here's the deal: I work this Sat. but for the rest of the month, I work M,W,F and am off Tue, Thu and weekends. I'll have to glance at the map. My first wild guess would be something like Effingham.

I am a big fan of blacked out bikes. That one looks sweet. Nice blend of flat black and gloss black.

Well, ya know, some people like Katanas, some people hate them. Since there are real fans of Katanas out there (katriders.com for instance) they can't be all bad. I really, REALLY don't want a supersport to be honest. I'd much prefer a sport touring styled bike, and the used market for Katanas seems to be better than, say, the market for Ninja 650s or Suz SV650s. I can find a used Katana for under $2k around here.

Very nice!

Is there a frontwards and backwards on saddlebags? Those look backwards to me.

Looks to me like he's just thrown the bags on the passenger seat for the photo. If you look, you can see that its not attached at all (or at least not correctly). The part connecting the two bags (is there a technical term for that piece of leather?) is draped over the top of the passenger seat.

I think they are right. You certainly DON'T want the air flow pushing UP on them.

And the connecting part is usually called a yoke. :)

Thanks Dupo :)

Primal your correct I had just thrown the bags on the bike, I don't have saddle bag mounts, on it yet and I don't know if I want to use them all the time, or just on occasion when I'm traveling.

As far as front and back go, that is the direction that I would use them. I don't know if it's correct or not but looks more aero to me O_o

Keep that front pipe polished. I love the Vstars but the front pipe has a habit of blueing. I am still debating between the Vstar classic and the Shadow aero.

I wanted the shadow real bad, came down to $. Now that I have the V Star and put a few miles in the saddle, I'm very happy with my choice.

I bought a Suzuki C50 back in October and kept the little gz250 until July. I sold the little bike to a guy at work. Wish I hadnt. Miss the little bike even though I only rode it 3 times (20 miles total) after I bought the C50. I see it everyday at work and I am disgusted in the condition it is becoming (he rides it but doesnt take care of it like I babied it).

Beautiful Vstar...I have a 2000 vstar classic and I love it!!!! Still like my GZ to ride to work for gas mileage though.
