View Full Version : An Electrical Question

I'm getting ready to install an amplified speaker system on my GZ. The installation instructions are pretty straight forward and I don't think I'll have any problems installing it with the exception of one thing. I have to tap into a switched accessory wire or terminal. Well... the GZ doesn't have an accessory tap on the fuse box that I can find. Also a side tap wire teminal crimp on connector was provided with the kit so connection is no problem.
My question is can anyone could recommend which wire to tap into, or any connection suggestions? The amplifier draws less than 1 amp.

I'm beginning to think that I should keep the shop manual in the house, beside the computer instead of out in the garage !! :)
Without looking at it, my advice would be what to avoid.
Pick a wire you can tap into that is fairly near the mouning point (so as not to have the wire to the amp be very long) and avoid: Headlight, ignition module and/or coil and the horn.
That don't help much , does it?

ER, just keep the PDF file on your computer and it'll save you some running.
Also, that IS good advise on which circuits to avoid, now the delimma is what circuits are left to use. Also is there an extra aux tap on the Fuse Box?? If so, I sure as hell can't find it.

Mmmmm......aaaaaa.....DUH!!
I had it here once; wonder if it still IS ??
I don't think there are any extra slots in the fuse block. That's why I suggested finding a wire close to your mounting point.

Yes, when you take the saddle and the tank off, you wil see three plugs above the carburator and under/next to the frame.
Possibility 1) the one on the left (goes to the left handlebar switches) has a thick orange wire going to it (from the battery) that connects to nothing on the other plug. See electric on p. 205 of the user manual. The wire is a positive wire and is fed from the battery, no fuse. You will have to insert your own fuse. (Hm, in my memory from two weeks ago, the wire was yellow - you will see, there is only one wire that connects to nothing).
Possibility 2) is, from another plug, on the right, above the cylinder you will see that it has an orange/blue loop, it comes out and goes right back in. That one is also always 'on' and is fed from the 10A (I think) fuse for the taillight and the front running lights left and right.
Then, is your sound system going to look and sound like this one ?:

Wonder if you could the exhaust as a sub woofer?

You oughta know by now I'll try damn near anything once, but the GeeZer is way to quiet to make the exhaust into a thumpin' subwoofer.
Too funny!

Maybe with an inline 4, you could sync the timing up with a sub crossover. I doubt you'd go anywhere, but then again, you could just strap a big ass ghettoblaster on your shoulder and crank it 80's-style down the street.

Yeah, but I'd need a pair of electric green bell bottoms, a peace t-shirt, and a pink pimp hat with feathers. My fat ass would stop traffic for sure then.
You sir, are a sick person.

You know, nowadays you can get sound chips that tie into the engine, and if you have a solid sound system, you can make your Chevette sound like a Mustang, Corvette, Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc. etc. (10 different car sounds in the chip).
Now, I wonder if you could also build that chip into a GZ250 with sound system...

I was thinking more like white parachute pants and a red leather jacket. Don't forget the Vitalis and a nice bottle of Old Spice.

I solved my electrical dilemma by direct wiring to the battery with an in-line switch. Done deal.
So Jonathan, How much do you want for those cool pants?
