View Full Version : Key Blanks - FYI

For those who live near large cities, this probably isn't a problem. When I bought my GZ, the previous owner only had 1 key. I tried every place here and no one had a key blank for the GZ250. A nice lady at Ace Hardware looked it up for me and I found them online. A locksmith wanted $80 to come out and key it !!
I found this site: http://www.mrlock.com/eshop/locks/index.html and bought a couple for under $1 each. I went to Wal-mart since it's close, but they wouldn't touch trying to cut it. So, I went back the Ace Hardware, and the guy said "no problem". He didn't even charge me for making the three copies (this is why I usually go to them anyway). They worked great. Now I have 4 copies (I bought more since there was a "minimum purchase").
For those who can't find them in their area and are looking to buy online, the part number of the blank is "SUZ18", and the Mr. Lock site shipped quickly.
Just thought I'd share.
Thanks all.

That is what I had to do too. I got a blank key from the Suzuki dealership, and a guy at a ace hardware was the only one who would even try to cut it for me. The Suzuki dealership I go to now has a policy that you have to show proof of ownership of the motorcycle you are ordering a key for, otherwise they won't do it.

Thanks for the heads up. I already have a few keys, but I will store that in the back of my mind, just in case!

I ended up buying 6 blanks due to "minimum purchase" requirements. I only had 3 of them cut, so if anyone out there wants one, I'd be more than happy to send you one. I've got 3 blanks left just sitting in a drawer !!
It's the least I can do....I'll work on doing more !!

Guess I just got lucky. I found a local lock smith that had the blank and cut the key all for $3

Thanks for that link. I ordered 4 blanks with the hard rubber head @ $1.01 each since there is a $4. min order. The local hardware cut two @ .25 each.
My uncle has an Intruder so I will see if he needs any.

How can I get a blank key from you?\
FYI, sent one to MRLMD1 and it worked perfectly in his '99. I'm also sending one to GUFAZI in VA, so that means I have one left. PM me if you need the last one !!
Glad I could help !! :2tup:

If you still have one left I could use it. I have one key witch got bent, managed to flatten it out but it has a crack in it, had it copied but it was not copied to the right blank. I am turning it very carefully in the ignition hoping that it doesn't break.

Go to Lowes! I went to Home Depot first they copied the key but it was on the wrong blank! :cuss:
I then tried Lowes they copied it and it work perfectly. :2tup:

Our Home Depot & Lowe's didn't have them. They had others, but not GZ blanks. It's good to live in Daytona, they probably "stock" a whole lot more cycle stuff than here in Melbourne !!
Next time maybe I'll just ride to Daytona, my HD riding neighbor keeps bugging me to. Glad you found one.

 I found out that the key that I got works great, but only in the ignition, not for the gas cap or the compartment.
If you still need a key( just for the ignition) all of the lows stock the key, however it is easy for them to copy it to the wrong blank, make sure it is a Suzuki key #32
So I guess if I could still use those blanks after all  If you still have them that is.

To Rich in Florida:
I'm sure you are a nice guy, but the picture of you looks a bit young to be riding a motorcycle!!! Just joking, of course.

The key you sent worked perfactly for everything :2tup: Thank You
After visiting all the hardware stores I realized it gets more difficult to say "Suzuki key" << try repeating it for a while :crackup
